DISCLAIMER: It ain't about sunfish. Sue me banana

An angler broke the CO record for brook trout recently. This record stood for over 70 years! He caught it in one of my favorite lakes. 7.8 pounds is a monster for a brook trout, pretty much the equivalent of a 4 pound bluegill. This is quite remarkable, truly the fish of several lifetimes

For comparison this is a 7.5 brown from the same lake:

And this is a 4 pound brook trout taken by my brother:

No. If it was snagged then he couldn't claim it as a record and the game warden checked the fish and certified it as the new record. My bet is he either doesn't want to tell what lure he caught it on or he caught it on bait which is legal in that lake.

Yeah that brookie my brother caught was bigger than any I ever got. My biggest brookie was 19 inches and about 3 lbs give or take. I turned the fish loose so I never got an actual weight. The brown in that photo was mine. Caught it on an ultra-lite rod, a 00 MEPPS spinner and 2 lb line. That fight took a lot of time to win.
