Have never fished the lake and was wondering.....is it worth the drive? Does it have grass? Does it have zebra mussels? Where is a decent place to stay? From where I am at Ivie is closer but wanting to fish somewhere new.

No way would I drive past Ivie to fish Alan Henry.
There are a few isolated patches of grass throughout the lake, no zebra mussels yet that I'm aware of.
I store my boat at Alan Henry and would prefer to drive 30 mins to the lake to retrieve my boat, 30 minutes back home and then 15 minutes to J.B. Thomas or 30 minutes to Champion Creek.
Sweetwater and Oak creek would also be better options IMO.
If you do go, unless you are extremely lucky and figure them out quickly, be prepared to catch 10-12 12" spots for every 1 largemouth.
I've fished it once this year.
Did some maintenance on my boat Friday and took it out for a quick spin to see if my motor was running better. Had a Pontoon boat cut in front of me while he was running the left shore around a sharp left hand curve. Then had a seadoo cut in front of my bow while towing 2 young girls. I went from half throttle to full reverse. He never saw or heard me yelling and blowing my horn until he was on side of my boat pulling the girls on the tube straight towards my bow. Thankfully my lower unit didn't give out and my momentum forward stopped just in time. The girls disappeared in front of my bow mere feet from me when my boat finally started moving backwards.
I usually avoid weekends at all costs.

Heck, I wouldn't go if it were across the street. I fish it a ton because it is all we have out here within 2 hours. But I avoid it at all costs during the summer unless I start having DTs so bad I have to get a fix. Not sure where you are coming from Mossy, but there has to be better options between you and there. Hubbard Creek, Ivie, PK, a mudhole out in front of the car wash in Rotan?

This is the type of feedback you get when it's really really good.

This is the type of feedback you get when it's really really good. About to say....how can it be that bad? By the layout and it being in the middle of nowhere you would think it would be fire

This is the type of feedback you get when it's really really good. I fished it frequently during my four years at Tech. The descriptions you see here are accurate. If AH were the only place I could fish the rest of my life I would quit fishing, full stop.

A 12 lber was caught in the last Green Pastures Tournament in June.
18 lb stringer with a 12+ lb kicker.
I believe 13 and 10 lbs were 2nd and 3rd with 5 fish limit.
June has historically been the only month I've had decent luck on that lake. Can usually catch 18" spots in 20' of water with black/blue fleck power worms. Bite usually lasts for a couple weeks and then they disappear on me. I was fishing a drop off from 20' - 40' one day in August trying to catch a big fish. Guy comes blasting by me and shuts it down in about 5-7' on top of a big flat. He catches a 10 on a green pumpkin crawfish. Watched the fight, weighed him on my scale for him.
I know a handful of people that consistently catch 5-8 lb fish out there. I guess I suck because I have caught 1 day - 5 fish stringers on just about every lake that I fish that are bigger than my lifetime biggest 5 on Henry.

So what are the biggest gripes about the lake? Is it that the fishing sux or that jet fleas and pleasure boaters ruin everything? I watched a YouTube video (I know a single video means nothing) with Matt Allen and his wife fishing half a day and he caught a 8.5 and saw multiple 10 or better.

The problem with AH is it is small and narrow and all of west Texas heads there for a taste of lake life/fun in the summer. The lake can be pretty chaotic this time of year. This is especially true on weekends. I haven’t been on it in a few years myself.

You've been warned. Be sure to give us a report when you get back. PS take some extra money for boat and passenger fees.
