I like those kinds of tourneys. Keeps luck from playing a role.

They probably had better results than if the river had been on fire. Thats right. As a teenager I remember the day that the Cuyahoga River near Cleveland caught on fire in 1969. Fortunately for me my parents relocated to Florida the next year and I got to do my fishing on Okeechobee.

Why?

For a tournament fisherman, does it matter in the least bit? It’s a level playing field…He would’ve cashed the same $4,199 check whether he had 28lbs or the 8lbs he weighed in.

The money is exactly the same. I’ve cashed quite a few checks on single-digit bags in SW Georgia too…

I've lived and fished here since mid 80's and other than some of the wed. night tourneys on lake worth/flint river,i can't recall a single digit winner especially on Eufaula or Seminole....

Win, no

You should come fish Eufaula ABAs then. 9-10lbs has cashed a check in the Majority of tourneys this year…easy money

I think the point is fishing sucks up there and I do count my blessings I don’t live there.

I get your point but those weights would be way heavier out of many Ohio lakes. Having the tournament on the Ohio River is like having a tournament in Dallas on the Trinity River!

Not really true... The first spring BFL out of Indian Lake only took 10 - 03. The river during the spring kicks out comparable weights but the therat of flooding and tournaments having to be canceled and rescheduled has every tournament organization looking elsewhere. Other than Erie, the Ohio DNR could care less about inland waters. And in Erie they only care about the Walleye... Kentucky's got Cumberland and it's world class striper fishing and until recently Kentucky and Barkley... Indiana, I'm not really sure. They've got some decent lakes along with Lake Michigan to the north... The Ohio River has been notoriously tough for the 50 years I've fished it. The problem is, at least in the Kentucky/ Ohio/ Indiana area that I've fished is that neither state wants to invest in the areas that need work. So you have three states that look at each other and shrug their shoulders at each other. Siltation is a #1 MAJOR problem but with the EPA involved it's just too complicated to even try to get permits. The river silt is considered hazardous waste. Once removed where does it go? There are creeks that are so silted in that once the spring rains recede it's next to impossible to fish some of them. A local marina use to have an Adopt A Bass tournament every year, 250-300 boats, it raised money to buy fingerlings to be stocked by the Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky DNR's, but after about 10 years all the state DNR's started refusing the the funds because their research showed that the stocking didn't do any good. The marina kicked around the idea of handing out 10 fingerlings per boat to be release when you reached your first spot of the morning. When the Indiana DNR (where the tournament launched out of) got wind of the plan they threatened to have a DNR agent at the ramp the morning of the tournament to confiscate and fine anyone in possession of fingerlings. It's a tough fishery, it' all we've got, so we make do... Dan

Cause it's a lot more fun to catch 28lbs than 8lbs
