I guess I am a bad one in that I can't seem to catch other guy's fish. I like to consider myself an average to above average fisherman but I have never had much luck on catching fish from locations given to me or fishing spots I have seen them caught at on TV. I don't fish many tournaments anymore but when I did I did better catching fish I had found rather than fishing some areas where friends had "loaded the boat" on. Am I the only one with this difficulty?

Occasionally I get on them and think I'm ok, then the next 5 trips I realize I'm terrible

Same.

I don't really try and get any actual fishing info regarding spots much at all. I usually just ask about how to run the lake and certain hazards. I would rather struggle on my own and have no one to blame....lol

Every day fishing is a great and blessed day cheers.

Now catching, that’s a whole other story bang grin.

Oh, and just an average fisherman at best fish.

I won’t fish other guys spots. Too many people focus on “spots” rather than conditions, depth, and presentation.

I’d rather get that info that a specific spot.

I took a butt whooping from the back seat on a local lake fishing with a buddy. He probably caught 3-20 lb stringers that day, my best 5 might have went 8-9 lbs. we fished several places I normally fish and 2 offshore points I have never fished. I w stubbornly won’t fish those points, especially if I’m fishing against him in a club tourney.

I agree with Mr. Perry. Really the only information I will solicit is what do I need to watch out for when running the lake. Whether you are on them or not, running over something will ruin the day EVERY time.

Am I a bad fisherman, no. Am I a good fisherman, eh. I stand by the quote below.

I have been successful in the past, won some tournaments, local and regional. I have caught a lot of bass and a lot of double digit fish, for me(13), all from public waters.

Now I that I retired I fish less than ever, family and other interests take up a lot more of my time. I am not into fishing in the 20+ mph winds, 100+ temps or night fishing like I used to be, I guess I am a "fair weathered fisherman" now grin

I do have really nice stuff though, lol.

The only time i listen to what others say is if i hear someone say they caught them flipping grass. I dont need spots or anything. Its much more fun going out with a clear head and figuring something out. I just go with my gut and see what happens. When someone says they are catching them flipping grass though, i already know im locked in on that before i get to the lake. That stuff is to much fun to pass up a chance to do it, especially now that our lakes are getting chemically castrated

The worst kind, mediocre. I never get skunked but I have some really really bad days and every once in a while a really good one. The bad ones were really hammering me after I got this Skeeter, I was like a bull in a china closet trying to fish a spot, but the more I go the better I'm getting. Coordinating when to use the power poles. boat positioning, trolling motor control needed A LOT of work. I never used a foot control trolling motor until I got this boat, always had the bow mount stick steer units. Don't know if they even make those anymore.
