I needed a break and decided to take Friday off. Talked my dad into meeting me at the lake. Arrived around 6 and only 5 trucks were in the parking lot. Now i know why most of you fish during the week. Pulled a brushpile out of my truck that i brought in case i could sink with no witnesses. First goal of the day accomplished. Fish were on it after a few minutes! Wind picked up as the day went on and so did the heat. I wanted to use my fly rod if wind allowed but it certainly did not.

Started off the day on the south end of the lake. Marked some good spots with sidescan and we set up in the middle of them and didnt really need to move much at all. We caught 70 to start off before foolishly leaving fish to find fish. Didnt catch much at the usual spots (maybe 5) and decided we were going for a 100 back at the first stop. Within 30 minutes of arriving back at numero uno, my dad caught number 100. I still had bait on so i threw it out and we left with 101 perch for the day around noon. It was a great trip mostly due to this thread and the info you all provide on the bite.

My bait of choice was (salad) shrimp on a dropshot spinshot rig. My dad had same rig but used a berkley crappie minnow. I was surprised at how well it worked. He didnt miss a beat. What shrimp i had left i gave to the fish in thanks. Kept a few for a snack and released the rest.

Glad i have a spot i can take my son to break his cousins jr bluegill lake record thats stood since 2011. We caught plenty that could have beaten it. Will let you know when he does!

Perks...Great report ! I also have my fish shelters that must be dropped when the lake is void of peeps. That count was around the same number I got a few days ago. When I keep fish, my ice chest looks just like yours...just enough for a few meals. I think some of the "usual" spots have been over harvested. Just curious...what is the jr bluegill lake record ?

Thanks all. Banker is correct. Was refering to the tpwd lake records. We had a trip back in 2011 where we left with 3 records. I caught a bluegill weight record that was easily broken within the year. My brother got lucky and caught a 1 lb sunfish on a crankbait. That one stood for a couple of years. My nephew caught a decent bluegill which im shocked hasnt been outdone yet. Hoping my 6 year old can catch one so he can tell his cousin whos now in college his longtime record was broken.

Perks...Here are 3 pics of interest to the discussion. The 1st one is the current lake record. (1.71 lbs.) The second one is my personal best (that I actually weighed at 1 lb. .32 oz) & the 3rd one is one that actually may be my personal best from 4 or 5 years ago that I did not weigh...would love to see some pics of your biggest...

I certainly dont have any that compare to those quality fish vogey. Lets just say the standards 10 years ago werent where they are today for water body records. I'm not holding my breath on catching a 1.8 pound bluegill anytime soon. Ill leave that to lucky bass fisherman or perch gurus such as yourself. Biggest perch ive caught on fayette were probably the 10 inchers we were catching yesterday and none were over .70

That was a great report Perks
When I think about fish shelters, I think crappie. I haven't searched any brush piles for perch. Going to try next time out.
I was also on the lake Friday for a couple of hours with our grandbaby and family. Caught 20 to 30.
