I have a sticking caliber on one side of my trailer. It is the side closest to the master. The rotor temps on that side are 15 degrees higher then the opposite side. I did not notice it was warmer until the air temps got higher. I am thinking for $140 I should just go ahead and replace it. I know I can rebuild it but if I go to the trouble to pull it I will just replace. Not sure if there is another option like cleaning the pistons with some brake cleaner.

I have had two that the brake pad tabs wore a groove in the caliper body leaving a burr on the outside of the groove and then the pad tab hung up on the outside of the groove causing them to drag. I ground down the area so the pads could slide freely.

My rotors look good. Calipers are 16 years old. Previous owner let the master cylinder go bad and did not care about having brakes. No telling how long he towed it with a bad master. I towed it for a couple of years and got tired of the clunking so I replaced it. I figure after years of non use the calipers are shot.

I would flush the lines first, buy a lot of brake cleaner, disconnect lines and spray thru them. if you replace the one I would also do the other, just cuz.

Lines are new along with fluid. I replaced when I put in the new master. Plan is to replace both calibers. I figure if I have to go through the trouble to bleed the brakes I might as well replace both. This along with having all the tools out. I am keeping my fingers crossed that the bolts don't have red loctite on them.

Looks like cleaning the caliper slides will take care of the problem. As usual the slides took the one allen wrench I did not have. Fortunately Auto Zone stocks the metric sizes individually and I did not have to buy a whole set. Now the question is a light coat of grease or none.
