I work in my garage a lot and sometimes it's just too brutally hot to get anything done. So I bought me one of these and have managed to keep my cool.

Worked last night and allowed me to get quite a bit of fabrications done despite the heat. And it cost me less than tree-fiddy.

At the end of the summer you can sometimes find them on unadvertised closeout at HD/Lowes and get a really great deal.

Evaporative? I've been kicking around the idea for my garage and back porch. Pretty dry here. Would work well.

They work. We have about 10 of them in our shop. not that exact one, but same concept. They blow about 15-20 degrees cooler air.

We have a Hisense refrigerated unit that was $299 at HD. Gets small room really cold but nas to be vented which is kind of a pain.

We have 2 of them on the back patio and they work great as long as the humidity is low.

End of season tip. Do not just drain the water out of them when done and store it. Do drain it completely and let it dry out in a hot sunny spot. Turn the pump on/off a few times
to get that last bit of water out of the pump and water lines. If you don't do this, the pump will rust out and you'll be installing a new pump come spring time.

Sorry guys but I have been working on a $3M proposal so wasn't checking this post. I bought it over the internet from Sylvane and here is the item info from my invoice.

Item he6350 Hessaire MC37A 3,100 CFM Evaporative Cooler w/ Automatic Controls $299.00

Subtotal: $299.00
Shipping: FREE (got it in 3 days)
Tax: $22.25
Total: $321.25

It was cheaper than the PortaCool of the same size and cools a bigger sqf, holds more water and has a higher cfm rating than the other. What I liked is that it has the media on the back and both sides so to me would be better suited to cool better.

Thanks for the tips. I did read it in the manual but will make sure I do what you suggested.

I also got it in case we lost power, I could plug it into my generator and at least keep one room cool in an emergency with the help of my spare window unit I keep for that reason.

I am wondering if I did something wrong, I had one of these and after a week of using it, took it right back. When I bought my house a year and a half ago, went to turn on AC and vents were blowing like 90. Until the company I used could get out to install new HVAC system, I tried one of these. Made the area muggy and stinky but didn't cool anything off. I was quite disappointed. Got it from HD and I think I paid 350ish for it. Down right didn't work for me at all.

Thank goodness the basement had mini-splits that worked really well. Basically we all just camped out in the basement area for a week and the rest of the house just roasted.
