I have an outlet that is rated for 15 amps. Need 30 amps. Can this be done by changing the CB, or do I need to have this line re-wired?
Thanks.

You're going to need heavier guage wire to run the higher amperage. That's why it's only has a 15 Amp CB.

15 amp should have 14 ga wire run. A 30 amp needs 10 ga wire run.

So many factors. Wire costs ( how far away from panel) Receptical location (difficulty to pull wire to) May need sheetrock work done after, and many electricians will not do it.

Any way to run a dedicated circuit breaker, run the wire yourself and leave the outlet alone? Depending on how far the outlet is from the panel, you could always try and pull the 14 gauge wire while pulling through the 10 ga new wire by taping them together REALLY GOOD. Down side to this idea is a lot of times the wiring is stapled to the studs. If the panel is real close to the outlet, you are wanting to convert to the 30 amp, it might be doable. If its across the house, might be easier to just run new wire, a dedicated circuit and open up some drywall to run the wire or run it through the attic and down the wall you are wanting the 30 amp on.
Price is going depend on how much wire you need. Thats where the expensive part comes in. The circuit breaker, and the outlet are not much at all. 10 ga wire aint cheap and depending on labor, not cheap either.

I have questions...what are you trying to run? 110 or 240v? Inside wall or outside outlet?

Let me practice changing out breakers at your house. I don’t want the first time to be my own house

I have a point of service water heater for the kitchen. It needs 30 amps to work properly. The line I have is 15 amps.

Panel to under sink is about 30 feet. The panel is in the garage the kitchen is above the garage and about 20 feet offset. The wires do not go via the attic. They are through the wall then down the wall to the panel in the garage.
I hope that makes sense.
Y'all are giving me good ideas. Thanks.

You can get 15 amp heaters. 1800 watts. That might be better if it can heat enough water for your use.

If you don’t have a window above your sink, an electrician can run a line across the attic and down. If you have a window, that’s a bit more challenging.
