Still catching lots of small ones on the Texas tooth pick in the middle of the thickest timber at about 18 to 25 foot of water. Managed 26 keepers, biggest was 14.5”, water seemed a little murkier from last weekend. Timber has been hard on the boat as I broke my TM prop last weekend, and broke my Livescope ducer mount this weekend. [Linked Image]

I've pulled a few big ones out in my days. Back around July 4th this year I stuck one in a big cedar tree and could not get him out. I eventually went in after him to free him up. She was down about 10'. Most of the time you can free them up by just being patient and giving them slack. But, I'm finding tons of my thick trees choked with mono all tangled up. Another reason I like to use 65lb braid on the Texas Toothpick.[Linked Image]

It`s just a J hook on the end of a welding rod with your line of choice (usually braid) on the other end.Drill a hole at each end of the rod and connect a swivel to each end. Connect the hook to one swivel & the line to the opposite end. The concept is to drop your minnow strait down into the thick brush to present your minnow without getting it hung up yet still be able to control your bait. The minnow will not be able to control where he goes & get you hung up. A youtuber @ "Coyote Fishing " has a GOOD illustration and demo of how it works . The video is called" coolio Beginner Crappie Fisherman Tips & Tools"

And for those of us (me included) who debate on whether fish can see mono vs braid take a look at the toothpick!!

First time I saw one I laughed and said no way. That was about 10,000 fish ago.

When you drop that TX toothpick in a cedar tree full of small limbs, it blends right in; looks like another limb.
Drop it in Canyon Lake in open water and see what you catch.
I've got four of them in my boat and they do work in brushy places.

I've never used one either, but looks like a weight most likely to hold the minnow still and help keep it from tangling in the limbs

It's a rattle, that normally goes on bass jigs, it's an attention getter.
Shake it and they smack it
