This heat and humidity is taking a toll. We have switched to night fishing, but the effects of the heat still poses problems. One is boat preparation. We got to the marina at 5pm yesterday and then realized we had left our catfish poles at home. The only gear we had in the boat were the three rods we use to catch skipjack. We did well on skipjack, but you can't attach a 4oz sinker to a light weight rod loaded with 10 lb mono and cast it. That limited us to dropping the baits straight down. Ended the night with one 8 lb blue. Every trip seems to be a new adventure now.

I tried doing the same thing Carey but the problem is it's not much cooler at night. I was gonna try and go one night last week and at 9:00 it was still almost 100 degrees. I checked again at 1:30 in the morning and it was 94. And going out at 5 or 6 o'clock to get ready is the hottest time of the day. I was gonna try this morning again but I passed to get some chores done. I'll be in North Alabama next weekend so if I don't get out by then, I will get some quality time on the water with Josh then...

If you any spare time, give me a shout. Maybe we can meet up for lunch or dinner. Josh is posting some nice catches. J.R. Hall had a 88lb last week. But the female angler who caught it was the keeper!

The heat is killing it for me right now.
It was 95F at 10pm the other night, and 92F the next morning. Nope.
I went all night fishing with Catfish Tim recently (thanks Tim) and came home and attempted to just carry on with my day, no sleep, and ended up getting really dehydrated and super tired enough for a trip to the ER with my wife. A reminder from the doctor that I'm 63 not 23!
Given the recent spawn combined with crazy hot water temps I don't see any/many decent fish 20 pounds plus coming out here locally, so that has affected my motivation greatly.
My new(ish) cranking battery also died this last week courtesy of the heat, as I was planning to go early morning for a couple of hours.
BRING ON THE FALL WEATHER AND BITE!

I work in an air conditioned enviroment and like most everone else live in it too. I work and fish outside a lot and went yesterday to Bob Sandlin and fished to around noon until the shadows went away it had gotten pretty hot by then. I was working outside with mys son a while back and got pretty hot, I'd leaned over to work on our pool and when I stood back up I fell like a tree. My son had to get me up off the ground, He got me in the house and went to the fridge and brought me some Gatorade. I drank the whole bottle pretty quick and in about 30 minutes I felt like superman and went right back to work. I used to drink the stuff when I was a kid but never noticed anything special about drinking it. I think as we age we begin to loose or less retain electrolytes and that is why I reacted the way I did and why heat stresses us more as we get older. I carried a bottle of Gatorade with me yesterday and once I got the boat loaded and was back in the truck I drank it. I could feel my energy coming back almost immediately.

I adjusted my hours. In the past I fished all day. During this heat wave I fish from sun-up till about 10am or 11:00am. If there is a nice breeze and cloud cover I will fish till 1 or 2 pm. Stay hydrated, drink plenty of water and do not forget the sunscreen. For the most part I am done by 11am and heading home.

But the female angler who caught it was the keeper! Yes, very photogenic! We are scheduled to fish at night so I should be able to do lunch unless things change. I will let you know.

The heat has been a challenge for me as well, and I get the part about my age now. Heck I would have never given it a second thought even when I was 50, now it's a whole new lifestyle I have not found much I care for. What I can say about the night trips are, it's just as hot till after 2 or 3 in the morning, the real biggest here is the wind or breeze we have during the day, usually lays down after sundown and it really seems hotter out.
We really need rain really bad here, a break in the Temps would be good also. I do go at things with a different pace than I did 15 years ago.

Liquid IV for me ! I drink about 12 bottles of water a day and 2 of them have Liquid IV added. This heat is not good on any of us.

I have used it and Drip Drop. Both are good products. I prefer Liquid IV though. It starts working really fast

I mean you start to feel better from being dehydrated in about 10 minutes after you drink a bottle of water with it in there.

When you work in heat that's over 100 degrees most days, even when the temp is in the 90's. Last thing you want to do is go out and sweat while trying to enjoy yourself. I'll pass till we get some more fall weather.
