Best thing that could happen to this lake is if it would not fill up for about 8-10 years and let the fish population get really healthy. But no I don’t think it will ever be a great bass fishing lake.

It will if u think it is. Just gotta makee several good reports in the fishing reports section.

There should be some decent fish in it now. Some of the brood ponds were stocked 2-3 years ago. As well as they stocked some adults in the lake in 2020 I believe.

I am sure there are people fishing it now.

If it pulls a lot of boats north out of DFW then it will be a huge success for me. Now get off my lawn!

It’ll be great the first five years, maybe best in the country for the first six months.

If they can minimize RV park and housing development around the lake, it has a better chance of sustained greatness

1. It’s too close to Collin, Fannin, and Grayson Counties. There will be a loud sucking sound from the water outlet pipes as these three counties continue to boom.

2. It has a fragile watershed, with only three semi decent creeks.

3. It’s too far north without the depth you need that far north to grow a lot of gigantic bass. The Oklahoma record is 14lb 13oz. The lake is almost in Oklahoma. Lake Bonham record 12.77lbs Pat Mayse record is 14.1lbs and Texoma 12.5lbs. Wright Patman 12.28lbs. The Lake Cooper (impounded in 1991) record was set in 1999 at 15.17lbs. The Caddo record is 16.17oz, which is a realistic expectation for Bois d Arc

Fannin County not getting any water from it. Pipes go to Leonard then to Collin County. Don't think it be near deep enough and not enough timber. . Another Cooper in a few years

Cooper 2.0 and it will go downhill faster due to sonar tech available now.

I was going to try and take a trip out to Purtis for the first time. What's the scoop on TPWD ruining it? Just curious.

Two words:: grass carp.

It still has fish and honestly the grass carp could have mostly died out by now. It's been 15 years ago or so they decided to stock it with so many grass carp they would eat the shoreline vegetation. It was beautiful in the 90's with grass and clean water, last time I was there it was a mudhole. I have not been there since like 2012-13

My opinion exactly, I've lived through Cooper's transition to nothing and I see Bois D'arc headed down that same path. The one thing that I think could be a game changer in the whole deal for both lakes is if TP&W would stock them more. Cooper got a 250K stocking about 2 years ago and I think it had been around a decade since the last stocking. Fork gets about double that or better every year I believe, I'm not saying Cooper and Bois D'arc need to match that but 250k every two years would be nice. Cooper had a pretty good population of largemouth until the droughts in the 2000's when it got nearly 14 feet low and that seemed to do major damage to the population of LMB's for some reason. They did a shock survey about a year before this last stocking and couldn't even find any largemouth bass.

And TPWD will naturally kill it all.
