I bought a used side imaging unit and I’m trying to decide the best place to mount the transducer on my 8 foot bass raider. Leaning towards the trolling motor mount but it came with a kayak transducer mount already attached. Would have to drill two holes in the pond raider to make this work which I hesitate to do and I also imagine the thing would get knocked up a lot. Anybody else mount one of these on their pond boat and where did you put it?

Wow, great resource! Thanks! After digging in my closet, I found a trolling motor mount so I removed the transducer from the yak attack arm and mounted it to the Minn Kota. Mounting the head unit has been challenging, desperately want to avoid putting holes in my buster, last one I had took on water and got super heavy even when holes were patched with marine sealant. I almost went with a Ram mount and removable wood partition over the front deck I was going to build myself then saw an idea so simple it couldn’t possibly work…Velcro! Yep, some guys swear by mounting their fish finders on velcro, crazy cheap plus you can move the head unit wherever you want. Lol, this has been a fun project!

Sounds fun!

DO NOT drill holes in through that boat. Its a two piece hull and that would not work the same as kayak scupper which is molded into the hull.

But you know that... I am sharing for others

Agree with the above. Mount it on the trolling motor or a side arm/ram mount.

Thanks for posting, very helpful stuff! Setting up this little boat is turning into quite an adventure, will have to post final build but so far I’ve got a “custom trailer”, 2hp Honda kicker, Helix 7 SI, power pole micro, Minn Kota 30lb, LifePO4 Lithium Battery. Best part was about $1000 of that stuff was free thanks the battery that was damaged in shipping they told me just to keep and I fixed myself. And I had a ton of credit card points to cash in. But now I’m broke and it’s been too hot to even get it on the water! What else should I add or upgrade???

CONGRATULATIONS!You certainly have more than enough GOOD stuff. However I would upgrade the MK30 for a 55 lb thrust and save weight by leaving the 2hp kicker at home. I don`t know of the number of trips you can make without charge up for the PO4 battery but always carry a paddle. I ran out of battery once while up in Lacy Creek on Cedar Creek lake because I under estimated the draw my HDS unit & Troll motor had on it. Since then I`ve been using a Delco Voyager M29MF deep Cycle Marine battery that has never let me down.Good luck with your adventure Big Leslie! thumb

Leave the kicker at home, no way! crazy My last buster I had a heavy, old 4hp and I was 100llbs fatter loved running that little motor and don’t feel like the weight (for the boat) was ever a problem. laugh trolling motor is next on my list. I used to fish Cedar Creek a lot we need to set up some buster meetups maybe even a paper fun tournament again when it cools off those were fun times back in the day!
