I hate it when they change something you like. One of my favorite breakfast meals is ham and a fried egg over either a large tomato slice or sourdough English muffin. Brookshire's changed my ham. It was a small package of round ham cut to about 3/8" thick with about 10-12 slices of the ham - fit perfectly on an English muffin. Now they have increased the diameter of the ham and cut it paper thin. With 2-3 slices it still isn't as thick as it used to be.

Please stop changing good products people.

Morning rant over.

The solution to any problem - work, love, money, whatever - is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be. --John Gierach

Donโ€™t be afraid of change.

Eckrich loop sausage changed several years ago from something fairly decent to something completely inedible. Last time I had it it was just salty fat, gross

Pretty sure Brookshire's tracks my purchases and stops stocking my most purchased items.

A lot of businesses are forced to change due to lack of availability of their standard products.

I liked the Polish Ham that Kroger sold for many years. Last time I was there they said it had been discontinued. I asked why and they said they are cutting back on offering as many choices in the deli.

Well thank you Kroger!

Probably done in an effort to control food cost. Scale back on slow movers to control waste.

My local Brookshires isn't what it used to be. Definitely seeing supply issues, substitutes, or discontinuance of products ( Walmart usually has it)

What was once the nicest store in town has become a third world experience.

It always has been. I make my own sausage but if I had to buy it HEB has some good stuff.

One thing for certain in this old world, everything changes.

Sounds like a classic case of shrinkflation to me. Companies reduce the size and/or quality of their food products so they can keep the same price point on the shelf.

The loudest examples of this are with bacon and ice cream. For the longest time, standard packaging was 1 pound for bacon, and 1/2 gallon for ice cream. Both of these are reduced by 25% now, and they play tricks with the packaging to hide it. Bacon slices are spaced out more so the packaging size appears the same in a 12 oz package as it does in the 1 lb package. Ice cream tubs changed from the half gallon circle to a rectangular shaped tub that is the same width and height as the half gallon, so that it appears to take up the same room on the shelf.

In the case of JP's ham, when it is sliced thin they can use a much lower quality piece of meat than they need for the thicker slices.

For 17 years we have fed our dogs Pedigree wet dog food. We primarily purchased the chicken varieties as that's what they would all easily eat when we had 4 dogs. About 12 months ago, they changed something. The consistency is way off and the one dog we still have hardly eats it. She'll eat it about once a week, so we've started giving her the turkey and bacon variety and using the Cesar dog foods. We found a couple of older cans of the chicken at the lake house when we were packing and she ate those right up. I wish they'd bring it back. She's become a picky eater and it's frustrating.

I showed this to my wife and she said she thought it was only us. As soon as we find something we like, BANG it's gone.
