I understand the answer might change depending on technique, depth, strength of the fisherman, and size of stripers; but in general ?
GX2 Regular ugly Stik Tiger model Tiger Lite Elite Striper model Catfish model
They are all about the same?

I am not a fan of ugly stick because I only fish artificials. But to me the lightest ugly stick rod will do the job fine catching big stripers. Just let your drag work and enjoy the fight cuz fish get tired pretty quick

I won’t use anything but my Gx2 ugly sticks 7 ft solid rod. Medium works great for anything I catch. Yes there are plenty of rods on the market but I’ve tried a handful and broke a bunch of them. Including some $100+ Rods on their first outing with me. Ugly stick is made out of material some aliens 👽 dropped off from the future that is indestructible. I’ve even gotten hung up and pulled my giant 24 ft boat with my fishing rod. Kinda bad for ugly stick from a business perspective because their rods cost me $40 and I’ve caught thousands of fish on their rods over the last 6-7 years and I can’t break them. Even fling 6 pound hybrids over the lip of the boat with the rod and nothing.

I have three shakespear ugly stick 7 foot rods on my boat and I use them sometimes for stripers. They work fine but I really prefer an 8 foot pro angler crappie rod, as it makes the fight more fun. Have to use your drag and prolong the fight. I don't see the point in fishing for striper and using big heavy rods to "horse" them in with 100 lb test Microfiber Braid line and heavy rods.
Earlier in the year when I was fishing from crappie at PK I caught lots of stripers on my 10 foot pro angler crappie rods.
John 21:3 Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, We also go with thee.

Agree, I’ve had lots of fun catching them on a medium powered rod.

Think I might try a medium light Ugly Stik striper rod. Nice moderate parabolic action on those.

I've tried them all. Live bait use is all I use them for. GX2 7' M is about the best I can find. The old CAL1101's were my favorite but they don't make them anymore. I'm not a fan of the Striper rod because they don't make the one I want, I don't want a 7'6 straight line rod, and I don't want a ML. Idk why they don't make a 7' M. It's weird. The old black and yellow BWC 7' M were good rods too. A good buddy who is a pretty prominent guide on PK prefers the Ugly Stik Tiger Lite's. He leaves his clickers on and uses a 2/0 hook. Just depends on what you prefer. I like one that will load up but not put half of the rod in the water on a 3lb fish either.
The old 7' M US Lite Inshore gets an honorable mention also.

Thanks. Definitely a head scratcher as to why they don't make the striper rod in medium. The Ugly Stik Intercoastal used to be another favorite before they made changes to the rod.

I use heavy 7 ft tigers for trolling dipsey divers. I use med heavy Big Water casting rods (6 ft) for trolling lead core and trolling sinkers.
Best? The Big Water rods are made better and will last longer.

I've got 2 of the 7' CAL 1100 Medium I've had for several years that I use for catfish. I'd have no problem using it for stripers or really anything that swims. It is rated for 8# to 20# test line. I have 20# main on mine, and at times I'll tie on a lighter test leader depending on what I'm after. Only reason I can think that they would discontinue them is they were too popular and they couldn't sell their other rods. I've seen this happen to many items I've used over the years......When something works too good, and it's not expensive, they do away with them. They can't be paying their engineers big bucks to sit at their desk and twittle their thumbs.
Just one more cast!
