When I used to jog, weight seemed to come off faster and I established that great feeling of “runners high”. Great cardio workout. Now, as I age, my knees hurt too bad afterward to jog so I walk. I’ve been walking at least 25-30mi/ week averaging around 18:00 miles. Would you consider that a good enough of a cardio workout, just walking? I know that I fill my tee shirts up with sweat every time and sweat drops fall off the rim of my cap for the last 30min of my walk. I just go for longer times as opposed to my jogging distances. Trying to stay at a brisk walk, not a leisurely one.

Walking is better than doing nothing. Jogging burns more, running burns even more and so on. With the norm being tbat it takes a 3500 calorie deficit to lose 1 pound of weight it will take significant time to drop a lot of weight just walking. I would think will use 300-450 calories per mile. The more often you walk and as you lose weight your body becomes more efficient at it so you burn even less calories. You will need to increase pace etc or change up type of exercise to increase the calorie burn.
Being active is far more important than anything though. Eating better and dieting will drop weight faster than exercise but combining both is best, safer and healthier.

I don’t jog I did for many years but now my knees bother me too much when I run. That said I am retired but very active. I do all the yard work regardless of temp, Hand wash/dry both vehicles, walk the pup early AM, longer multi mile walk when wifey gets home regardless of temp, I also do all the housework I do have some down time but not a lot most of the time I am in motion in some form or fashion. I eat right and not too much at one sitting most of the time. I am 66 and wear the same size pants I wore in high school. To me it is all about balance being active and having a good diet moderation on everything especially booze and fatty/fried foods.

Yep. When I lost my weight 10 years ago, I first went the diet route until I had lost about 90 pounds and then started walking. At first, I could go 5 minutes and that was it before the pain got too bad. As I progressed, I would create new challenges for myself every day, eventually doing an hour walk at a 3.28 mile pace. For a man with bad arthritis in his hip, not too shabby. I got my resting heart rate down to 48. I was 37 at the time. I now walk 1 to 1.5 hours a day in my pool (small above ground soft sided pool purchased specifically to exercise)...I'm losing more inches than weight at the moment, but I am losing 1 to 4 pounds a week...I also change up my routine in the pool. The main thing is to challenge yourself and to change up your routine adding new goals. Walking is a great, underappreciated, unsexy exercise, but very effective.

100% yes. I have done some light research on this specific topic as part of my own fitness journey the past few years and there is no doubt that a brisk walk is the equivalent of even super intense HIIT workouts, except it requires a longer time to complete. A lot of fitness and nutrition experts disagree on the ratio. Some say for every minute you run, you have to walk 15-20 minutes; some even say much longer. But every knowledgeable expert agrees if you walk long enough, you absolutely get as good a workout as anything out there.
If you want to see a real life example, this guy Paul Revelia [ check out his youtube channel] did it as an experiment in his fitness routine. Bear in mind, he walked insane amounts of time, including weights and slopes and very fast speeds. But he did, in fact, get shredded by simply walking. Also, I'm pretty sure his nutrition was pristine so that helped immensely.
Have no doubt, walking is a greatly underrated workout. Also, a great way to start any kind of workout routine, like I did.

Yep... I walk 3 miles in 45 mins 5 days a week. I cut out fast food at the same time and lost 30 lbs.
Courage - knowing something will hurt and still doing it. Stupidity - knowing something will hurt and still doing it. That’s why life is difficult

my wife and I walk 4 to 5 times a week for 3.5miles . Take the dog with us to keep pace . She just started doing " rebounding " with using a mini trampoline . She gets her heart rate up pretty good for approx 10 minutes . People online say 10 minutes of rebounding is equal to 30 minutes of fast pace walking . My father is 88 years old , diagnosed with a fatal disease in he late twenty's . Luckily , JFK was diagnosed with the same disease a year earlier --- it helped save him . He is really into birding and goes out 3 to 4 times a week , walking upwards of 5 miles --- up and down some good sized hills . He swears being that active it was keeps him alive

I know you found the benefits of Keto and how it was a sort of weight loss hack that was not aligned with traditional thinking. Here is something else I found that is crazy good cardio. When I put a heart monitor on and raised my pulse to 180 by just standing still and flexing muscles I was amazed. This won't hurt any joints and is very effective. Watch some of the testimonial videos. They may look like they just have their hands in the air but what we don't see is the flexing and contracting they do to their muscles to increase pulse rate www.ddpyoga.com

I walk 2-4 days a week 2-5 miles each time. Other days I spend time on an elliptical which gives the arms a little exercise also and might be more of a cardio workout than walking.

I walk 2-3 miles multiple times a week. This has helped me with the fog and energy levels I started experiencing during the last pandemic flu season.
The key to my walks were brisk walks not running or slowly taking my time.
