My dad recently bought a Pro Line 230 from a friend of his who has had some health problems and can't use it any more.
I would like to get set up to do striper fishing but have no idea what kind of tackle and gear to buy. We are in the north central Texas area and would like to fish Whitney, Proctor, Leon, PK and maybe others eventually.
Where do I start with rods, reels, line, hooks, lures...pretty much everything.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm sure you'll have many recommendations.

Big boat...probably that size should have a pair of down riggers for starters.....

I fish a lot of stripers and have many combinations, depends on how much fight and fun you want when they hit.....Our fun favorite is med/light....its a hoot.....grandson uses a zebco 33 and has landed 4 lbs hybrid which we thought would break....didn't. As you can see, pretty much any pole...its the line, knot, bait or lure that drives my pole use. Wife asks why I need 40 different poles, etc...

Sometimes I go out with all casting rods....all heavy makes winter thumping a lot easier when 4 to 6 poles get hit at the same time....you'll quickly get to knowing what you like.

Good luck

Lots of variables (casting gear vs spinning gear, etc etc). Fishing gear can be as expensive as you want it to be.

If it was me, I’d get the following:

Rods—I’d get one piece rods
1 medium 7’ Ugly Stik elite spinning rod fast action (single hooked jigs and artificials)
1 medium heavy 6’6” Ugly Stik elite spinning rod fast action (heavier single hooked jigs)
1 medium light 7’6” Ugly Stik Striper casting rod (treble hooked lures and live bait/cut bait)
1 medium heavy 7’ Ugly Stik Striper casting rod (live bait/cut bait when using heavy weight and when trolling a heavy umbrella rig)

Reels
2 Daiwa BG 4000 spinning reels for the spinning rods
2 C3 abu Garcia 6500 catfish special casting reels

Line
15lb big game for the medium and medium light set ups and the spinning set ups.
20lb big game for the medium heavy casting set up

Hooks
4/0 eagle claw circle sea circle hooks—with circle hooks, you just reel and raise the rod tip. No need to set the hook.

This guy has a very good striper YouTube channel with lots of informative videos
