Been extremely tough on keeper size. This time last year we were catching 50 keeper fish in about 6 hours in the Timber. I still have several hundred fillets in the freezer from last year, so i'm not real mad at em.
With this heat we have been giving up around noon and only bringing in 15 to 20 fish a trip, with at least 20 to 30 throwbacks, which isn't really bad, it's just not what it should be.
Brush piles are producing about the same 15 to 20 keepers but most folks are having to weed thru 75 fish to get that many keepers - lots of small fish, which means the future is looking good.
Sand bass have shown up schooling down by the dam, and every week those schools are getting bigger and bigger.

I was out on RR on Saturday and caught a limit pretty easy once I found them. Lots of dinks for sure but also lots of nice keeper fish. Seemed like 18-24 ft was key and I did better on brush than I did on timber. Checked several places that did not have many fish on them, but once I found them, it was loaded. It was my first time out there since I got my boat last year. I used jigs.

Nice. I saw you do a drive by / U-turn on the bridge I was parked under.

OP,
Definitely full summer pattern. Hot as blazes so I'm an early riser and get the hell off the water kinda early. I put a dozen on the string from my kayak, but have to chase them pretty close as they change depth and move around on the bridge as the sun comes up. Have had to switch to minnows the last two trips. Not my preference, but seems to give me a couple more hours catching.

RR was tough this evening. Lots of fish but tough bite. My fishing partner wanted to try minnows under the livescope. 0 nadda bite he caught 3 on a jig I managed 9 on a 1/8 ounce jig. Landed a 16lb fathead too ACC rod 11ft 20lb braid on 4lb mono leader. Like fighting a marlin!

Really like that ACC rod my first time using it. Bought it @ Cordells Outdoors good folks over there!

Fished the timber the last two days. Catching 24 to 28 keepers and going thru 5 dozen minnows. 15’ to 17” deep. Not great but but better than sittin at home! [Linked Image]

Baptized young Mr Breken with the new 14’ Dobyns Crappie Rod! His first time out, I think he caught on real quick. He caught 4 before his daddy caught his first. Sent them home with a fish fry! [Linked Image]
