Yeah, this is in another country. Has nothing to do with the US. But it looks like an early step in a developing trend to 'break' recreational fishing. If catch & release becomes illegal in a country, that wipes out most recreational fishing. If the nutjobs in our country try to enact something like this, it'll really screw with one of the most fundamental joys of life: https://thefishingwire.com/colombia-bans-catch-and-release-sportfishing/"Whatever happens in Colombia, this move should be seen as a shot across the bow of what we love to do as fishermen. The Animal Rights Movement is on the move worldwide. Just ask hunters who travel for their sport."

What about catch-and-“got away”?

What about catch-and-“got away”? That’s what I was thinking, barbless hooks and it “got off”.

Ummmmm I worked out of Panama and Columbia for years and comparing the Constitutional Court of Columbia, which has made stupid laws on a whim for years,to the US Supreme Court, that only decides the constitutionality of laws passed, is quite the stretch. Now that being said I really don't see this happening in countries that truly intend to preserve the natural resources bestowed upon us,just a little common sense goes quite the distance..........and no one I know has ever stated Columbia owned one ounce of common sense.

Well it's troubling when you see the pattern being set by the Green Party in some European countries. Their goal is to get rid of recreational fishing. May not affect us here in America for some years, but if the trend keeps going, it might not be so nice later on.

from american sportfishing assn. There are approximately 60 million anglers in the U.S. of which 46 million are estimated to fish in a given year. while I can see them trying to pass some moronic law that bans sportfishing I really don't think the feds. want to pizz off say 35 million people. they would also loose a lot of tax money that supposedly goes to natural resources. https://www.nps.gov/articles/fishing-funds-conservation.htm

Never happen but if iit did, I've seen lakes growing up that were entirely catch and eat in the 60's on up into the 90's. What drove that was folks having to put groceries on the table if they spent the money to go fishing. I think on some bodies of water like Toledo Bend the fishing was actually better under those conditions.

I too think the lakes fished better but it was also probably due to a lot fewer boats/fishernen (due to smaller pop.)

What about catch-and-“got away”? That’s what I was thinking, barbless hooks and it “got off”. I don't need barbless hooks to lose them boat side. I've mastered that bad luck.
