We really like to fish Hall's Bayou. You never know what you are going to catch. LM Bass, Trout, Flounder, or Redfish. Several months ago, there was a high tide that flooded part of the boat launch. When there is a really high tide like this, we can fish some of the shallower areas for redfish. How do you recognize on a tide chart when there is going to be a really high tide down there? Tomorrow there is a high tide of 0.08 at 12:38 PM and a high tide on Sunday of 1.0 at 6:50 AM. Does this mean that the 1.0 is higher than an 0.08 tide? Is a 1.1 tide higher than both of those? I am looking at Alligator Point as a point of reference.
The higher the number the higher the tide. So a 1.1 is .92 higher than a .08. The charts are based on the lunar effect. Wind is also a factor as is the amount of water that can come in or out of an area. If the wind is blowing into a area that’s going to be higher than if it’s blowing out. Distance to the tide gauge you are looking at is a big deal too. You can be not too far away and it makes the times off quite a bit. I would think if you are up at the bridge and boat ramp that’s +/- 2 hours depending on incoming or outgoing. Someone who fishes that area would know.
Tide coefficient is good to know. It’s how much water is being moved.
If you can plan around the tides and lunar phase this Tuesday and Wednesday would be the days.
The major and minor bites are a real deal. I have a buddy that didn’t believe in it. We were in Venice. I was “don’t be in the boat taking a break at 9:30”. It was like magic. Mullet started moving, birds picking and trout went off on every cast. Now he just asks…..”when is the bite.”
The magic doesn’t happen every where. You still need to be in the right spot.

After looking at the charts on this sight I’ve decided to go fishing at the end of the month because the tides look favorable. Up until the last week of the month it looks as if it’s going to be the usual hit and miss. Should be interesting to try this out based totally on moon and tides. I normally don’t fish on a full moon and I know that a moving tide is always better so just reading the chart and going by that should be interesting. And if it doesn’t make a difference I’ll still be fishing.
It's really dependent on where you're fishing. Canals, passes etc are very tide dependent. I get you way into a back lake, and tide has zero influence.
Also you can catch them any day with the major or minor playing a factor. On the lower rates days bite the window maybe smaller.
You can catch the,any time. So if you want to go a open day go. Just let the tides and major and minor be part of your plan for a day. You might be in a area where the tide movement is so low it has little effect. The fish know even when you don’t.
Also wind makes current. Moving water is good. Non moving it’s harder to catch them. You can also have too much movement to where it’s too much work fir feeding fish.
Jay Watikims has some good videos talking about tides and major / minor. I watch Jay on Instagram.

We’ll I went last Thursday.I even changed my work schedule so I could be there at what looked like the best times using the times on the chart in the morning and early afternoon.(Big Blue Fish) The water was a little rough and there was plenty of seaweed.Tried a popping cork with live shrimp, nothing, silver spoon, nothing artificial shrimp with some scent juice on it again nothing. By that time that morning window of opportunity was closing caught a croaker and put that on my surf rod and let it soak. The crabs didn’t even bother with it. Moved to another spot further down the sea wall past the 91st pier and by accident caught a spek.Turned out to be keeper size, would have released it but it’s lip was torn up so it went home to the grill. Long story short I didn’t do any better following the tide chart than i normally do.Actually I’ll usually do better when I fish the way I’m used to. If it works for someone else that’s great. I’m always open to try something new and for me it’s good enough just to be on the water.
