Is anyone have trouble finding shad? I normally try to launch near the dam. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Not sure if there are just too small for my net. kinda frustration.

It’s that time of the year the guys who are getting the good shad are using the lights and getting out there early and working very hard most days

In other words, get out before sunrise and hit the marinas

Marinas, lights, 4 am, bunch of throws. The easy 2 throws at sunrise in May is done.

Like others said before sunrise and try deeper. I have had good luck off the first boat house at Little Mineral when it gets hotter. Or just go to Tawokoni and you can fill your tank in a couple of throws in 8 to 12' but I guess with the zebra mussels that is no longer legal.

Sometimes you can find them in the back of coves middle of the day. I have had good luck in the back of cambridge shores casting in about 5-10' of water, but they are not always there. If you have sidescan the best thing to do is locate them with that, you can clearly make out the schools of shad, pin-point them and then throw your net on top if you are good. Also, if the water is deeper than 15' you need to get a deep hole cast-net that is taped for best results.
