I've been looking at trying to install a shoot thru hull transducer for a Lowrance Carbon 12. I already have a HST-WSU 83/200 kHz Skimmer Transducer that I was going to try. The best location in my bilge is a low spot that is slightly narrower than my transducer. I would have about a 1/8 inch gap between the bottom of the TD and the surface of the bilge. I thought about filling the space with enough epoxy to fill the gap but didn't know if that would allow the TD signal to work. Any thoughts on if this would work and what the best epoxy is to use for this?
Thanks....Richard

First Don't install a transducer with a temp sensor in it . You want the PD-WBL transducer No Temp You can do what you are saying However its a big risk. FIrst before you glue down any transducer its best to determine where take a wire brush on a drill and clean the spot down to the fiberglass. Then put your boat in the water and Test it to make sure it locks on. You don't say what boat you have but most mfg do a good job in making sure there are no air pockets in the single lay construction in the bilge area. Even so best to verify test before gluing it down. You want to use slow cure 2 part epoxy so that it releases all the air bubbles in the glue before it hardens. I usually put epoxy on floor and bottom of puck push down to push out the glue and air then put a weight to hold it for 24hr before I use it. Lowrance sells the best slow cure epoxy for transducers. Lowrance dealers who do installs usually carry that also.

Thanks for your advice, I have a Cajun 21CC center console, a Carbon 12 (as mentioned) and a 3-in-1 TD mounted on the back of the hull. I fish both fresh and salt and want to be able to swing my 3-in-1 up and out of the way when fishing salt. I don't want to have the TD damaged if (no, when) I end up too shallow on a sand bar or shore line. I want to be able to switch over to the shoot thru TD just so I can have a depth reading while running the bays.
With this in mind, would the HST-WSU work since I don't need the temp reading? I'm concerned that the round design of the PD-WBL won't fit into the low spot in the bilge. I may just have to try a different location to test.

The low spot you reference could be more of a problem till you test. If there is a spot like that in an area where it should be flat and soldid for Shoot thru. The main issue you will have with that temp sensor is it will always want to be the temp sensor as you will select that transducer set it to local and that makes the Temp sensor a priority it does not mean you can not select another transducer like the one in your 3-1. . I have just seen and talked to to many customers that has issues mostly because they did not think it was an issue until they installed it. I personally would not but it's your boat your choice. I would move your 3-1 to a bracket on the side of your jack plate then you don't have to move it all the time and they work great in salt water. Just another thought on mounting a skimmer, its very difficult to get it flat so that its shooting straight down then you will have other issues. If you can keep it straight, get out all the air underneath then again its your boat your choice, Once that is in your adjustments are gone it is what it is. Happy 4th

Ok, I will look at mounting on the jackplate as an alternative.
Thanks
