Going to be in Sea Isle for the 4th of July weekend. Will be on the surf and not the bay. Any surf reports out there??

My buddy went last Saturday. Caught a lot of dinks and 4 keeper trout to 20” on topwaters. Had a shark bite one of the keepers in half while the trout was on the stringer. Waded in a little after sunup, done by 8:30. Lots of misses on the topwaters, tried tails, topwaters were better.

Don’t know if you wade and chunk lures, wade and chunk live bait, or fish cut and or live bait from the sand. Too much time between now and the fourth to draw anything much useful from. Trout are generally somewhere in the surf during the course of the summer, but will the wind, current and waves and sargassum allow you to fish it is another story.

But, if the water is wadeable without the waves crushing you, there should be some fish in the surf around the fourth of July.

I fish the surf quite a bit in Fall but never in the summer. We catch whiting in the first gut and use those for bait out in the second and third gut for the bull reds, etc. I've caught live mullet in my cast net but for whatever reason I've never caught anything on them. Fresh dead shrimp for the whiting (and occasional catfish) and then whiting heads for the bigger gamefish, including small sharks. Never really tried casting lures. I also had a friend out there about two weeks ago and he said water was brown and choppy from the wind but no sargassum....yet. Hoping that holds off until later but I'd like cleaner water or at least less wind.

Can catch trout in the surf early morning, then small sharks and reds all day.
Catch mullet in the surf or there’s a bait shop in sea isle.

Went this morning, caught 18 trout, only 5 keepers but enough for my limit. Caught on mirolure.
Also caught whiting and small sharks on shrimp and cast netted mullet.

Thanks Paper Mouth for the report. That sounds like an excellent morning! I'll give the topwater a shot early then try to catch bait with my cast net. What color are you using on the Mirolure?
