Tech does and has been doing that ever since the computer and mechanization.
Fact is Henry Ford's assembly line and it going over to many other products put many small businesses out of work.

One instance I remember reading about when I was a kid. Cesar Chavez was negotiating with farmers for higher pay. I can't remember the product but I think it was lettuce. The producers said that X is the highest hourly wage they could afford without automizing production. Chavez and his group stood their ground and the next season most of the harvesting was done by machine.


Edit: They standardize the mailbox and my old job would take huge losses to the workers too.

No matter how long it's been going on it still sucks for the working class.

When we first started using scanners in the late 90's, the scanner they chose had been a UPS scanner that they had already upgraded from.
When they upgraded again around 2017 I noticed one like it at Sam's Club. When I told the clerk she said that scanner was a spare that was used when their current ones went down.

Earlier this year the post office made a committment to buy new vehicles. Their last vehicle was built in the early 90's. They opted to buy almost all ICE vehicles, saying they could not afford EV's. Congress even had a special investigation into it.
So when they start delivering the new vehicles they will once again be behind.

I sure the gps systems in the truck have been updated and vastly improved.
qualcomm showed me to be almost 275 mi. out of route on a high value load, had to text a picture at the next weigh station to prove where I was.

had both systems in trucks for tracking and communicating, they were far from perfect up to 2008.

ambulance drivers will probably be in higher demand imo.

That reminds me of a story I was told by a truck manager back when they were first implimenting GPS. She talked about a certain driver that was breaking down all the time. When they installed tracking they noticed he always broke down near casino's.

The same lady told me about the mailman who I was delivering behind. He was always taking any mail that was not correctly addressed and returning it. We are supposed to deliver anything that we know even if the address is wrong. The lady told me "We love Tod but he almost put us out of business" after I asked why there was a special mail count on their mail every day.

According to the American Truckers Association, the U.S. is short about 80,000 drivers. Maybe this will help fill the gap.

The post office is totally different- it’s ran like a government monopoly- worst attitudes on earth are at the post office. How many businesses are allowed to use the mail box at your home? A mailbox that’s privately owned.
