NHTSA has approved an EV driverless vehicle to be driven on public roads. They plan to start testing shortly. The changes coming are going to be huge. I've read some ideas and its mind boggling. How about rigs driving close together to get wind assist since they can link up electronically so each vehicle knows what the other is doing and can respond immediately.

So will these be Autobots or Decepticons?

Yes, because actually having to drive and steer has always been such a terrible dilemma.
Yet another solution without a problem.
People are going to be killed because of all these "innovations". But that's okay, when your wife and kids are wiped out by a driverless vehicle you can be cheered by the knowledge that they died for the sake of technology. One question, though. Who do you sue or charge with vehicular homicide?

There are some on the road right now. A friend of ours passed one just last week and said it was very strange to a rig that big without someone behind the wheel.

still no infrastructure to support EV vehicles and won't be for many years to come if ever since liberals have wasted or money on illegals, high gas prices, inflation and just plain old stealing by politicians
I guess twenty years if ever for infrastructure to be in place. Our transmission lines cross the country or way out dated. We can't even power our country without rolling blackouts now due to lack of capacity how does anyone think we can add 50 million charging stations and put them on line and think we can power them.
Liberals and people who voted for them are just compete idiots

Just what we need. 6 or 7 if these skynet trucks linked up in the slow lane.. blocking cars from taking exits

Self-drive has the potential to put a lot of people out of work. They won’t lose jobs. They’ll be loaders and unloader now.

You can look at any of the large shipping companies and they are all exploring new technology to ship. Its the same game, cost and safety, that pushes them to not fall behind.
FedEx, UPS, Amazon and Walmart are all testing autonomous vehicles now, mostly on long haul low traffic routes like Dallas to Ca. One leader in the autonomous technology is building a truck that runs on hydrogen. I believe every large truck manufacturer has EV or autonomous tech in their future plans too.

How long before a robotic arm is installed that eliminates loaders and unloaders as well? There are a lot of benefits to self-driving, but there will also be losses. It will be great for seniors and in the long run will greatly reduce vehicle-related fatalities, but it will also put truck drivers, cab drivers, bus drivers and pretty much anyone in mass transit out of a job.
