I got a starboard thermostat alarm, non-critical on my smartcraft. So I changed the thermostat. First trip out idling to pick up partner I got a starboard thermostat malfunctioning engine overheating alarm. Watched my gauges closely and it came down to 126 degrees. Made a fairly good run afterwards with no problems. Idling back after fishing all day I get the original alarm again, starboard thermostat malfunctioning non-critical. Anyone got any ideas what to try next? What it may be? Thank you.

When was the impeller changed last? Have good water pressure at low speeds?

Take both thermostats out and place them in some hot water 145* - 160*. Make sure they are both opening. While they're still in the water take a pair of tweezers or needle nose pliers and swish them around. Small pieces of leaves, grass or wood chips maybe keeping them from opening or closing fully. It only takes a small piece of debris to cause a problem. You may also want to put the thermostat covers back on the engine (without thermostats) and flush it with the hose connection on the back of the engine to flush the system out... I have to do this 3 or 4 times every spring when our lake flood and all the leaves, sticks and other trash is floating on the surface... Dan
