Long story short. My kiddo had accident last fall. Her car totaled. Wife said go get a new truck and give her your old one. Gave her my 2016 EcoDiesel (Laramie) with only 80k miles on it. She loves that truck. It’s been bulletproof.
When I gave her mine I bought a Hemi 1500 longhorn etorque. Great truck great power [censored] mileage. Missed the 17 plus mpg pulling my boat and 24ish on highway with EcoDiesel. Best I got in any single tank with the Hemi was 20.8 one time! All hand calculated.
Really like the comfort of longhorn but since she’s at A&M for school made me wanna barf looking at all the Longhorn badging and engraving in cab.
So made the move for best of both worlds. Got new EcoDiesel and not a longhorn edition! Picked up 2022 Laramie yesterday afternoon. And no looking back.
For those curious ones. Paid $3 for driving for 7 months and putting 7900 miles on it. Got a grey discount on new and great trade in for my old. Paid $60,500 for it and traded back in for $57k But with the savings in taxes closer to $59k
No looking back……so glad to get back the EcoDiesel. 0% Plus got dealer cost for a 6 year full maintenance plan. Made out very well ….thanks to Nyle Maxwell in Castroville TX!

$60k for a new half ton? How much did the ED cost? Holy carp…I felt bad paying $40k for my 2019 Silverado 2500 duramax.
Love the ecodiesel but fuel is cheap when you drive 80k miles in 6 years.

I bought a new Ram 1500 Lone Star 4x4 Crew Cab for $35k in 2016. Back then loaded trucks were $50k-$60k and I didn't get it then either. $70k+? this is nuts...for a half ton truck? They aren't worth it My $40k Silverado 2500 Duramax 4x4 CCSB drives just as good as the ones folks are paying $80k for and looks almost as nice also. I put on High Country wheels, running boards, bed cover, and clearance lamps after I got it so I guess I'm $42k into it. Have 60k mile on it now. It's got apple carplay, bedliner, jump seat in the front so both kids can sit up front with me on FRF (Front Row Friday school pickup when we go get ice cream all in the front row). Who is buying these $70k half ton trucks? Honestly, what is your salary? Do you own your own business and it's a write-off? It just makes no sense to me.

I'm not a fan of these overpriced vehicles but it's still one's right to buy what they want.

Believe it or not but some people make decent enough livings to afford trucks like this and not put a burden on their expenses That's my situation, I can afford the new pickups but won't leap because I know I'm getting gouged, I absolutley refuse to do it. I'm riding around in a 2013 Ford that is paid for and there is absolutley nothing wrong with it. I bought it when it was 3 years old and give $23K for it. About a year ago it might have brought what I give for it in trade in from some of the numbers I was hearing. My dad was a car dealer in the 80's and 90's in Louisiana and because of that I follow a lot of indiustry news. Everything I'm seeing says this highly inflated market is going to crash and from what I'm seeing right now the process has already started in the used car market. The industry leaders are saying what they are worried about is what is going to go down in about 3.5 years and that is vehicles being so loaded with negative equity that have been bought in the last year plus that folks will be trading a lot further under water/upside down (than they have before); which mainly the way the general public trades these days, that the banks will refuse the majority of the deals. For those of us that sat on the sidelines it will be a wind fall. You can have anything you want at pretty much an even better price than you'd expect to pay. Prices probably a lot lower than before all this started. My two cents.

When I am in the garage working I turn the radio on. On Saturdays I listen to John Clay Wolfe not because I like him but he is on the station I listen too. He has been saying for a couple of weeks that prices are coming down on used vehicles. When the recession hits prices on new ones will follow.

That's fine. I believe it. But why? You're just throwing away $20k-$30k. I can imagine most folks- wouldn't want to do that even if they could. Just makes no sense to me.
