So what I need to know is:

How many of you have EVER fly fished the Lowest Laguna Madre - South Padre Island system?
If you haven't, why not?
How did you like it?
There's no fly shop there, so what would you want to get /see / know if you walked into a fly shop down there?
Information?
Products?
Would you be likely to bring the entire station wagon load down with you?

Yeah, this is a "loaded" question, but it does have a load of rewards attached to it! All you have to do is ... answer and add to it.

LOL. I told an Orvis manager friend that he needs to open a store in Harlingen. He told me he would if I’d run it.

There won’t be an Orvis store in Harlingen……….

I retired and bought a house down there so I could devote my days to throwing flies at fat fish in skinny water, not so I could run a store. If you’re planning to open a fly shop in the RGV you can count me as a loyal customer. I’d like to see a decent assortment of quality rods, reels, lines, accessories, and tying supplies. I’d like to be dealing with folks who share the passion, know the sport (and the local waters), and who enjoy introducing new blood to the sport. Perhaps even run some ‘Friday Night Follies’ events, like Dave does at Swan Point Landing. Perhaps have a couple ol local guides you book for.

Dare we hope?

There is a fly shop in corpus, you may consider doing a small detour there.

Being closer is a blessing and a curse I think. Coming along nicely, but not there yet!

I will bet, wildly, that there WILL someday be an Orvis store in the Valley, or on the Island. Who knows? Maybe Los Pescadores will reach for the golden "O" someday.

The vendor list is adding up! Suggestions anyone? This is your opportunity HERE to have some kind voice in what you might just find at this location ... no dancing girls, no gunplay ... no ...

I have fly fished the jetties and local lighted piers at night and had some great times. I was not able to find flies anywhere near the island. An island location would be preferable or maybe Port Isbell. I had to bring all the flies I used with me when I went down there.

How many of you have EVER fly fished the Lowest Laguna Madre - South Padre Island system? Count me amongst them.

If you haven't, why not? NA

How did you like it? It was great fun.

here's no fly shop there, so what would you want to get /see / know if you walked into a fly shop down there? The usual complement of supplies. Rods/reels would not be of interest to me cause I have abundance but all the things that get used in a trip

Information? Always and willing to pay for good info

Products? Yes, things you might run out of, e.g., consumables

Would you be likely to bring the entire station wagon load down with you? travel light all over the world, and bring what I need but one can always run out, lose a line, run out of specific tippet, etc etc

Thanks everyone for participating.
I think we will have what you need as far as basics - from day one.
It is easy to get caught up in flies that may work better in the other places I have fly fished on the Texas Gulf Coast, and forget about what works in the LLM. Trying to cover it though! Tying day and night, and buying as well. We'll open with somewhere more than 500 LLM flies, and If I can stay awake? Maybe 1K at opening.

wow, I think that is a good idea. Is that mean we are moving from north texas and giving up the carp gig or blue birding it in the winter in south texas and summers in north texas?

Well ... I am coming back to North Texas for the carp season, and tightening it down to the best weeks of what North Texas Ray Roberts carp has to offer - based on many years of calendaring the action. So, I will be booking for a tight window soon!
