Hey all,
Got me (a new to me) Hobie Outback. Where can I put in on Lake Monticello?
Cheers,
M

Only legal access is from the public rip rap at the main bridge.
All the other land surrounding the lake is private property

Thanks. Is there a parking spot? Or is it more of a pull along the side of the road and park on side or road?

Don’t stop or park on the road or the side of the road—GW and enforcement don’t like that.
There is a dirt parking area at the end of the west side of the bridge

From parking lot its about 100 yards to first area you can go over railing down to water. Take some rope to secure kayak coming out as you'll want to rest up for the final hurdle over water pipe and railing. roflmao

Looks like a great spot for an inflatable kayak, filled with helium! My two kayaks weigh 61 pounds each, and I wouldn't want to haul either of them up that grade with those obstacles. IslandJim

forgot to mention that I normally retie to railing post after taking breather... its about 6 feet from water pipe to railing and you'll want to retie to one of the railing posts before attempting to slide it on over. Watch for traffic as you'll have half your kayak over the railing and into the roadway. Before daylight or after dark, you'll want to have some kind of light to keep from getting run over.. lots of traffic early and late...more than you would expect. Its best to have 15 to 20 feet of rope.. hard to explain but you'll figure it out real quick. roflmao With two people rope not needed and its easy. Highly advise getting all the stuff out of your kayak going up or down embankment until you get the hang of it. Definitely worth the effort but it takes a few times to figure out what is best for your particular boat.

Iconn4: Looks like a good application for a boat trailer winch you could bracket and c-clamp to the guard rail. Those work really easy with a battery-powered drill or driver and a socket to fit the winch drive. Being inherently lazy, I can always envision an easier way to do things than manual labor!
Hope the fishing's worth all that effort getting the yak back up to the road. IslandJim

I'm glad I didn't go there this past weekend.. went to Naconiche instead and wished I'd stayed home.. I would have fallen asleep on the 2.5 hour drive home from monti. It will be worth the effort in Oct.when things cool off. In this heat, I try to stay within an hour of the house. roflmao

Would hope anyone that goes out there will post pics of how they made out loading and unloading and how many trips it took back to vehicle. roflmao

Took some pics of parking and unloading area yesterday.

[Linked Image]

Normally I would park where red truck is parked, unload and then move my vehicle so everyone else could load or unload there as it is the closest you can get to where you put in.

With all the stuff I bring, I used a cart today (finally found tire that had blown out).
