I've found several ponds near my house 7-30 acres that are fishing so well right now it's really difficult for me to justify going to lakes. My favorite lake is a tank of gas away round trip. Call that 100 bucks. Boat gas, call that 40. Snacks and the launch fee and we are at $150.

So hour and a half there. Fish for 6 hours in 100 degree heat. Probably catch 40. Most 2-3lbs. A few 4s mixed in. Maybe a 5. Another hour and a half home and I'm out 150 bucks.

or...

I take three hours and go to a pond, catch 8 fish, top 5 going 22lbs with a 6 kicker, I sweat half as long, and I'm out zero dollars.

The wife and I love going to the lake so we are just cutting back in other areas to offset costs. Eating out is the first thing we stopped doing. Netflix, Hulu, and some other pay services are on the chopping block now. It’s not that we can’t afford them, we have just decided that we don’t use them enough to spend money on them.

HogFan, we are about to have a media culling around my place too. #1 is going to be getting rig of our satelite dish. Way to expensive and we don't need it.

I think most on here will have to be dead broke before they stop fishing and even then would find a way. If I’m broke, I’m asking one of ya’ll to take me. I’m gonna find a way eventually.

Fuel cost has certainly slowed my fishing trips down. Now I don't own a boat but fish local ponds, some trips down to Lake Murray, Arbuckle. Mostly stick to the local ponds I can get access to. At 100 degrees I go real early and call it good by 10:00am. Filled up the Dodge, it's a diesel, yesterday, half a tank, over $95.00. We are a single income so we are watching our expenses. We are doing a road trip in July to go to my nephews wedding in Wyoming so that will certainly put a dent in our pocket book just for fuel even tho we are taking a fuel efficient car.

This whole economy and the associated mess has caused me to delay retiring since I do not want to give up an income that is keeping us going for now.

Bottom line is ALL DEMOCRAPS THAT HOLD A POLITICAL OFFICE NEED TO BE RUN OUT OUT OF THE UNITED STATES. THEY ARE MORE CONCEARNED ABOUT THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES THAN THEY ARE ABOUT AMERICA. AMERICA IS LAST TO THEM.

Friday’s night trip put a dent in the wallet.
130.00 to fill up , leaving Dallas
250.00 for breaking GLoomis Gl3 rod on a bite right at boat, but landed fish.
400.00 for having another GLoomis Gl3 rod and Shimano SLX reel get dumped into lake athens when putting broken rod in rod box.
50.00 for a couple of new line guides on two rods that were found broken. Might have been stepped on when short strike happened
Returned to lake athens to dredge for lost rod yesterday, no luck.
Unknown cost at this time to repair shift cable slide and shift cable that broke while idling and side imaging on boat trails where I lost rod. Thankfully got a tow part of the way back to ramp.
124.00 to fill up after leaving lake.
50.00 to fill up after church today for this weeks travels.

I'm not rethinking a day trip, but we will rethink tournament participation at lakes that are not close to the house. I suspect that the tournament trails will see their lowest participation numbers in a long time in 2023. I know most trails are down this year. That will continue.

I suspect if the conditions remain the same trails will start tightening up their schedules based on where their core groups are based. Sadly that means metro lakes.... I could see south texas and west texas stuff getting hit really hard because 100 miles to the lake is normal in those deals.

Yes Sir---or 300 to 400 miles for us Panhandle and eastern New Mexico folks.
I just replaced my two and a half year old trailer tires --- they were worn out !

Even if diesel/gas was still $2/gal, it's too damn hot outside. Y'all boys are crazy standing around out there in 100 degrees to get a bite...

I had a trip booked to the Pines/Caddo in July. Cancelled that not only cause diesel is $5/gallon now, but it's not even August yet and already over 100 degrees. Hell with that, I'll find me something else to do.. lol
