ook over my neighbor's lawn. She can't handle doing it herself. She hired tru green for 2yrs and go no results. So I asked her if she would mind if I took over. I will kill the weeds and fertilize at no charge. She will have her mowing crew do the mow still handle that part. I am only doing the front yard which is about 2500sq feet. She has dallis, KR Bluestem, dollar weed and whatever else you can think of. Mostly bermuda with a little St. Aug mixed in as the main turf. Goal is to use herbicides that do not take an applicators license and residential lawn approved. So I am not using msma which would be an easier way out. Going to use the best(cheapest) fertilizer I can find. Which is Walmart Texas Turf 15-5-10 for about $15 a bag.

Started it May 21st. This is what it looked like. I applied 1lb of actually Nitrogen per 1000sq feet via the TX Turf to get the Bermuda and St Aug as healthy as I could before applying herbicides.

Two weeks later June 3rd I applied herbicides. This is 3 days after application. You can see the Bluestem and Dallis turning purple.

This is yesterday June 13th, Pretty much looks like I hoped it would. Herbicides are really doing work. Going to need another application around July 1st for a clean up. I think a few weeks after that app I should have the weeds under control and will focus on pushing fert to get the bermuda or St Aug to fill in. Waiting for the weeds to die off good so I can see how much of each is there before I decide which turf type I will cater to.

Derek I am following the holiday fertilizer schedule this year so will fertilize again early July. I still have 13-13-13 from last year and a partial bag of regular Scotts Turf Builder. Which do you think I should use for the July application?

Use the T13 in July so you can keep your potassium numbers up to help with drought and stress. Use the Scottโ€™s for your Labor Day app.

I donโ€™t live in Ennis, but might offer you free sex in exchange for top quality lawn care (like your neighbor did). Iโ€™d like my back yard (literal, not innuendo) looking nice also though. Please tell me all this will entail and maybe we can negotiate. Thanks!

Derek seeing a lot of damage in lawns in my area some that are watering regularly and normally great lawns. So far mine is okay I am thinking this is insect damage. Would grub or chinch bug damage be showing up now or do you think this is just from heat stress. One bermuda yard down the street normally perfect looks horrible I am thinking insect or brown patch. Are you seeing anything similar in your area?

I'm mostly just seeing heat stress. I'm not seeing any major disease issues right now. Chinch could be an issue. Haven't heard of an outbreak in NTX so far but they are easy to test for using a cup or coffee can water test. Mostly what I'm seeing are lawns that aren't fertilized and irrigated properly checking out and going dormant. I have 3 neighbors on a good schedule. Only one has irrigation and the other two manually water and do a good job of it. All 3 lawns look great. This is one of my neighbors yesterday that doesn't fert or water. His lawn is done for the year unless something changes and we start getting rain. Come September and say we start getting rain I could see a lot of these stressed lawns coming down with brown patch or some other disease going into fall.

Lowes has a ton of their Lesco granular on clearance. Specially their Stonewall and Dimension pre emergent. Most of the ferts are too. Downside is online will show you the price but doesn't tell you what stores are running the clearance so you physically have to stop by and look. Worth a quick pop in if you're close to one.

Loaded up on the clearance sale. Got Stonewall at $11.53 a bag and the opened bag for $6. Got the Lesco 20-5-10 for $15.98.. If you buy 5 bags you get an extra discount. Got all but one bag of each that I'm keeping sold to the neighbors.
