To answer the second part of OP question, the one thing that the redhead and I are trying to instill in our daughter is to learn to think for herself. We tell her quite often that if she learns how to think for herself, she'll be leaps and bounds ahead of most people in the world.

There’s no substitute for experience. It’s not racism if it’s fact. You never run out of propane till your cooking. If you have to shoot, then don’t stop. Stop the bad guy at the front door. You mean you’ve come all this way and you didn’t sight in your rifle. Watch your words, cause you never get them back.

Mark Twain once said"
When I was 16 the old man was the dumbest person that ever walked and talked.
When I turned 21, it was amazing how much the old guy had learned!
The problem with society today is that it doesn't have the fathers that you guys had/have. We live in a society that has all but taken the family unit out.
Let's hope that in the years to come on Father's Day, there will be a lot of people that had and remember a father.

Never fry bacon without a shirt on So it's OK if I'm not wearing any pants or underwear? Just as long as I have on a shirt? I guess that would depend on how tall you are and how much freaking bacon you plan on frying!

Just came back from my mom and dad's house, both are in their 90s and not doing well, anyway I was reminded of another:

Every time I met my father, I met him with a handshake. It was something we always did I guess it was a way of being close without saying it. But it was also a sign of respect because my father taught me many things and was a big influence in my life. We just never showed emotion. The night he died I told him I love him. He told me he loved me too. Those were the last words we had together. Lesson learned.

During my teenage years, I help Dad with Roofing, concrete work , mechanic , and carpentry . He could do it all , and do it well. His best advice to me " Son , you better get an education , you are not going to make a living with your hands. "

Not advice but 2 of his sayings.
You are not a man until you jump out of an airplane.
You are not a man until you whip your old man.

Well, my dad just messaged me to say that the VA oncology department has stopped his cancer treatments because he's too far gone. He's been dealing with this for a few years now, so he's outlived the initial prognosis of 4-6 months. They told him to get his affairs in order and he's getting hospice care lined up with them.
Haven't really had much of a relationship with him for my adult life, so I'm not sure how I should be feeling. It's just weird right now.
Anyways, best advice he gave me as a kid was "don't point that damn gun at anybody", "always double check your knots", and my favorite - "all women are crazy". Man I’m so sorry to learn of this Zac. Peace to you and family!
