Providence Village has banned section 8 renters and is going to fine landlords. They have also limited landlords to one rental property. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the courts. I think this particular HOA has gone too far.

I hope it holds up in the courts this is the exact thing that is ruining nice neighborhoods.

Landlords buy homes like anyone else. I personally hope it’s defeated and I think it will. The only thing they should concern themselves with is property appearance. I have multiple rentals in hoas and have to keep up appearances.

Do you rent to Section 8 renters?

The only reason it will likely be defeated by the courts is the demographic of the majority of the tenants

If it’s a property that the owner is willing to take sec 8 vouchers on then let’s be serious- it’s not a crème de la creme neighborhood anyways. Nothing wrong with that, just saying you live in a lower rent type hood then you can’t expect it to be super nice.

I see nothing wrong with a preemptive strike by the HOA to ban Sec. 8 renters before it is a problem. Almost all neighborhoods decline and it would be nice to have a history of banning these renters rather than coming in if it becomes an issue.

I’m not sure if the landlord has to accept the voucher as full payment or it can be supplemental- but your situation seem like an anomaly. In Oklahoma I don’t here if situations like that.

What’s rent on that house 4K a month? I’d like to plug the address in Zillow and see the history.

Huh. I could see a new HOA establish "no section 8 rentals" in the bylaws when first formed. But once there are section 8 tenants already there, it would be really interesting to see how things unfold. I suppose one outcome might be a court saying "no new section 8 rentals, but existing tenants may stay".

I don’t believe a landlord in Texas has to accept Sec. 8 renters. Just say no.
