my wife worked at a food shelter for almost 4 years .They gave out approx $150 worth of quality groceries per person . As long as you had a drivers license from the correct ZIP codes , you could come once a week . This was about 1000 people twice a week .
They had a certain ethnic group that would show up in their Mercedes , Audi's , Lexus's cars and complain about what they were getting . She got to a point that she couldn't serve the others when this group was just trying to take advantage of .

My wife's previous husband ran out on her and left her with the kids. She had the stamps and worked four jobs. She needed the help and probably would have been in one of those lines. Now she works one job, drives a nice car, has a house she can call her own, and helps those less fortunate in her community. As it should be.

If you put all your eggs in social security to support you 100% in retirement, you kind of deserve whatever you get.

Should be 8.6% increase in 2023. Seems too little too late in my opinion.

People in need😆. Our local high school gives out “free” lunches to anyone that wants it all summer. You should’ve seen the mile long line of high end SUVs getting “free” food. Had a lady at church say it was “free” so she was gonna get it for her kids- and they can easily afford food…

on the flip side the "high end suv" peeps have probably paid for the "others" for many many years

Also you cannot always judge a book by the cover, these high eneders tend to have a mountain of debt and the increase in all products could have made them very cash pooor for dailys

That is sort of a “let them eat cake” attitude isn’t it. Not everyone may be as fortunate as you.

If you draw the conclusion that SS is my sole source of income in retirement you sir are a dumbazz.

If she has a job she paid for the meals already.

Times are tough, most do not care to hear you complain about SS. Hope you bought savings bonds as well

Times have changed. More people will be relying on SS for a larger part of their retirement. Gone are the days of nice corporate pensions for almost everybody. My dad worked in sales for a large aluminum company. When he retired his pension was 80% of his last 5 years salary, he kept his life insurance, he kept his health insurance with a $1m cap, and he had long term care insurance. He also collected the maximum amount of SS for his age. He told me one time to hope he lived a long time because of the money he was saving every month. There are very few that have those kind of benefits these days. I have no debt and spend less then my monthly SS payment. I am only able to do that because I receive the max for my age at retirement.
