For those who haven't heard, Yellowstone is flooded and at best, only half the park will re-open this summer.

We were planning a trip up there and have reservations for mid-July, but gas prices had us re-thinking before this flooding thing. Where is a place we could take 2 campers that would be a fun family getaway? Prefer not to be in this Texas heat. Anything closer than Wyoming is on the table.

We had originally wanted to plan an international trip this year, but that looks like it will be a no go due to price increases. Spent a week in Breck, CO last year and loved it. I was thinking possibly Park City, UT this time.

The Smoky Mountains of Western NC/Eastern Tenn. Joyce Kilmer National Park, Nantahala National Forest you can also take a drive on the Tail of the Dragon near Robbinsville & Deals Gap. Lot's of things to do in that area.

Reality. What a concept!

Big Bend is in Texas, but the heat is not bad there due to the elevation.

I second SD - Seeing Mt Rushmore should be on everyone's list. Sit and watch the short documentary on how it came about and was built was fascinating.

Spousal unit and I made this trip a few years ago, I really wanted to see Rushmore and was not disappointed. Went through badlands on the way out of rapid city and it was beautiful. Highly recommend

Go tour the vast expanse of liquor stores in Rowlett. You could make a long weekend out of it.

Glacier natl. park is arguably the most scenic and beautiful park in north America and is only 300 miles north of yellowstone........you will never regret spending a few more hours to see it.....I'll post some pctures of Glacier tomorrow as picture of the day...
