With all that typed.. we want him to have an upgrade.

A brand new boat, or year old...

He obviously wants a Ranger, but we've heard Johnny Morris's Ranger is not Forrest Wood's Ranger. We've also heard many bad reviews on the Mercury Fourstroke especially compared to the SHO. So perfect world? A Ranger with a SHO... I've learned thats tough to find.

So... what should we buy? What would y'all buy? I got an old school dad, and given his experience, he's a Ranger man.

Thank you so much for the input and opinions.

In the boat section there's 2017 Ranger with low hours, all set up and ready to fish.

OP is from January 2021.

If money was no object I'd get a Ballistic .223 with a SHO.

I'd do what I just did on my recent purchase of a used Skeeter, I'd buy the deal. I'd look for a boat certificate or a tournament won boat and as long as it wasn't a Nitro and I kind of halfway liked what I found I'd roll with it. I looked at and rode in a lot of boats before I bought this one and except for the 520 Ranger; on a whole 'nother level, I rode in they were all about the same. The other thing I noticed is console seating can be drastically different from boat to boat. Because I'm all legs, some boats had my knees literally in the dash and some I had plenty of leg room.

That is easy. It would be a Caymas. Hands down.

Nitro Z21 XL

Ranger Z521R

That is a good list, about where I am at. Because of price for the package deal(not Apex for me), I am leaning Skeeter whenever I decide to pull the trigger. I love the new Bass Cat all except for of all things, the clear grab handle thing that looks so cheap. Dumbest thing but is bothers me!

Yeah that Bass Cat oh sh$t handle is a tad annoying and takes away from the look. But it does have a purpose for the passenger that's never been in one.

I’d get a progator as long as they’re still made…very very tough boats. Past that I’d go Charger, Basscat or Blazer.

Vexus or caymus. I talk to alot of Co's about the boats they have fished in and these 2 seem to be the best experience for them. Besides my z20 anyways but I know how to drive in rough stuff so whatever

When I am not fishing I am thinking about fishing. And mostly what I should have done differently my last trip!

If you dad has fished out a stick steer all these years I would look at a Royal out of Florida. They are sharp!

[quote=1bas]If I were buying new tomorrow, I would be looking @ Caymus, BassCat and Pheonix.

These would be my top three choices.
