I'm going to buy the strip LED's for bow lighting. Is Bluewater LED's best choice for durability and quality? Also, was planning to mount in rub rail but watching an install video, saw probably better to install either right above or below rub rail to better prevent any damage if you were to hit something, dock or whatever, on rub rail in that location. Seeing how some DIY's installed in rub rail didn't look that great of an install either. Just curious how others have installed them. Planning to tap into existing running lights so they are still operable if needed.

If ya want to get some good ones, look at Taco Marine. They are a little more expensive, but they are built really well and are considered legal by the USCG. They are made to fit over the rub rail.

They pretty much work, yes. And they are quick fix when they dont. LED strips arent a quick fix when they dont.

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and bought the Bluewaters and will install right under the rub rail. We'll see how it works out. Will still have the bow light pole in the boat if they fail.

Went through 3 sets of LED’s from being mounted under the rub rail. Worked great and it was nice being under cause you couldn’t see the light source when fishing

But being under the rub rain is one wave and a stump/stick from being tore off

Good point but I would hope the bluewater led's would hold up to any wave but get how it could catch a limb just right and rip it off but don't want to install in rub rail or above due to reason you state. Think I'll take my chances with it below.

I put mine above the rub rail, I have not had any issues with the light when fishing (that could be down to the angle of the hull above the rail). I am good at getting into trees etc and have had no issues with them in the two years they have been installed still very happy I did it...... now just to get the light on the power poles

Man, I wish I had power poles. I have a Talon and was planning to get the light attachment through Russell Marine but they discontinued it. I can't find anyone else that makes a light made to attach to the top of the Talon. Mines an older Talon. Probably 1st or 2nd gen. Came with boat when I bought it used. I was actually going to post it on here to see if anyone knew where to get one made for the Talon. I'm trying to figure out how to get it done, though.

I installed above the rub rail, and added a small lip to keep the light from shining upward. Love them, and I kept the old shaft light as a backup in the rod locker. The rod was in the way. Love them.

I put these on from amazon a year ago and haven't had a single problem. They're screw ins. I knew the stick on adhesive wouldn't last on my boat. I put them above the rub rail and rarely fish after dark but they will blind you standing up fishing after dark.
