….AND IT LAYS FRAME!

I just bought this 1968 Impala SS. It is an unfinished restomod. 22’s and 24’s from Boyd. Complete frame off with QA1 suspension and air ride. 413cu in fuel injected small block. Air brushed emblems, interior by me.

It needs about $3k to finish it. Bought it for $20k. Hasn’t been on the street is about 8 years.

My wife is gonna be pissed.

Added some picture from yesterday and this mornings work.

The old speaker grill in the back seat. Took out the “reverb-a-tone” rear speaker. Added two Diamond Audio 4” coaxial speakers to run rear fill duty. They are wired to the front Diamond Audio HEX components mounted where the old fresh air intakes were at. They will use the “REF” outputs from their crossovers. “Rear enhanced fill”. They will get an out of phase -10db signal. The amp is a Rockford Fosgate 500x4. Bridged it will send 250w to each side. Subs are gonna be two Rockford Fosgate 10” P3 woofers in a nice sealed enclosure. Yet to come.


New rear speakers. I used three wood rings. Grill cloth and super glue. Kinda like fiberglass, but takes about 15 minutes to make. Using accelerators.



After it sets, I use body filler to thicken and smooth it, then wrapped it in 4-way stretch carpet.



Radio is gonna be a Pioneer. Cause that’s what’s supposed to be in a muscle car. Lol.

It needs the Holley EFI programmed, needs the trunk finished out, and has a few minor scratches. Needs a couple details refreshed. The top is completely new mechanically and cosmetically. Pretty much everything is new. Motor only has about 80 miles on it. Transmission is new. Has new vintage air air conditioner.

Customer got in a jamb and needed the money. He also owed a sizable balance that the shop I work for wrote off.

If you bought that for 20k you did good!

It’s been here at the shop for years. Guy finally said “what would I give him for it?” I just threw that number out. He said ok. I went into the office and got the owners wife to give me 20 grand. I gotta get them a bank draft on Monday for it.

I’ll likely keep it for a few months, then sell it for a small profit.

Honey, look what followed me home from work today.

Yeh. I live 5 minutes from the shop, but it doesn’t run good enough to get it to the house.
The fuel injection is barely setup enough to move it around the shop. I’ll have to bring the laptop to work Monday and run through it all.

I can’t wait to get home, tell her what I did, get screamed at, and get the boat ready for tomorrow!

Love the car, not a fan of the wheels and tires, but I'm an old. Very cool car, sounds like you got a heck of a deal.
