Just bought my first Curado (mgl 150 xg) specifically to throw weightless senkos and flukes. Wondering what you set your brakes and outside adjustment on if you throw lighter baits like this?

Just turn them all off that way you can cast a mile. Please report back on the results.

Just turn them all off that way you can cast a mile. Please report back on the results. No brake is as good my gorilla thumbs. I have two of the new(er) Curados and they simply suck at light weight lures. The spools are too heavy and they get worse with 150 yards of line on them. If you really want to cast light weight stuff, get the new Diawa SV stuff. I just bought the new Steez 70 CTSV. It can cast a 1/4oz shaky head with the brakes turned off. But it can only hold about 55-60 yards of 12lb line. The new Tatuls SV would be a similarly priced reel with light weight capabilities. I also have the Curado DC. It isn’t much better at really light stuff. You’d almost want to go to an Alderbaran reel for short light stuff. Just like there is a club for each golf shot, so goes fishing and presentations. Spend the money or compromise.

That’s disappointing. Daiwa is what I always use but took a chance because a buddy swears by shimano. When I got It home I asked him how he sets It up and he said he’s never even opened his side plates. Wth.
This one has 6 brakes. 3 were on 3 off.
I think I’ll just take It back and get Daiwa. I really like to just turn a dial on the side.

The rod makes all the difference.
I have an older TFO that is awesome for flukes, but I had it re tipped after losing an eyelit. Lost confidence in the rod. Picked up a shimano slx rod which was inexpensive and is almost as nice as the TFO was. I am going to upgrade to the expride for flukes
Currently use a lews for flukes. I do not consider the flukes and senko to be similar. Senko needs more rod unless you are wacky rigging it

I use a Shimano Citica for my fluke rod. I set 2 brakes on, 4 off. The ones on I usually set are across from each other. I can cast or flip it weightless without any issues, even in heavy winds. Make sure your rod has a little softer tip and you should be good to go. Too stiff and it will not allow you to cast or flip like you want it.

+1 on the Daiwa SV reels. have 4 or 5 of em and they cast any and all weights well. rod helps, too, but a curado doesn't like anything less than 3/8. I only use my curado on 1/2 oz and up

4 breaks on and dial sent to 3-4. Just as good at casting as a Tatula SV TW and doesn't feel like a wore out rattle trap after a year of use.

The Daiwa SV TW will outperform the Shimano's any day. They are the best for light weights and skipping docks. I sold a Shimano Metanium because it could not cast light weight baits nearly as well as the Tatula Elite. NOT EVEN CLOSE.

I think I’ll just take It back and get Daiwa. I really like to just turn a dial on the side. Great idea. You will like it much better. The only newer Shimano that I like better than the ones after the E and the K model is the SLX. but still the Diawa reels perform better.
