Spaniel/Pointer mutt, 9 mo old, did this in <30 min. Bald Cypress is about 25' tall i'd guess. What should be done to help it at this point?

I’m not an arborist but I’m pretty sure trees need bark to live

You don't need an arborist, you need the Dog Whisperer.

Look up the dirt doctor in the Dallas area. Look for something regarding trees or how to save a tree.

You sure it wasn’t a lightning strike?

A good rule of angling philosophy is not to interfere with another fisherman's ways of being happy, unless you want to be hated.

You need to make a cast for it. Use something biodegradable , like paper towels, the good kind too. Make a nice plaster out of some mud and straps of the bark. Wrap it with at least 8 layers of the mixture. You may want to make a splint also. The tree may bend over with no bark.

Xylem is probably damaged. Follow dirt docs recommendation but I believe it will die, particularly with the heat coming on.
