I'm going to Destin in early August. Want to do some surf fishing. Probably going for pompano. Looking for a decent reel and rod. Should I get a 10' rod. I was looking into the penn battle iii. Any advice for me?
Thanks in advance.

If you have your bass fishing equipment, just use it.
What part of Destin are you fishing? In the bay, jetties, or the at the bridge?

When we go to Pensacola I bring a three piece 7' MH casting rod, a three piece 7' H spinning rod and a 10' MH 4 piece spinning rod. I bring whatever reels I have strung, sometimes name brand sometimes china specials I got off eBay. I usually catch ladyfish and catfish from the surf. I have caught one Florida pompano and one African pompano but I catch more of the others.
A five spot for a shot and a beer? And you wonder how we wound up here.
