I have seen buzzbaits work for striper when they are boiling. Buddy of mine did not want them flopping in his yak with tons of treble hooks so he threw a single hook buzzer. He did not catch as many as I did on my popper but I suspect thats mostly due to his limited casting distance. Buzzbaits are not the most aerodynamic things around.

Again that was fishing boiling fish. I suspect the ones and twos I can pick off on top with a popper or walking bait might not hit a buzzer as readily but in a good boil anything that moves along the top of the water will get nailed. They are not too particular in those times.

If you’re talking about me at Willow Springs a few years ago - true, I don’t like throwing treble hooks in my kayak, especially with striper that do a lot of gymnastics in the boat. 😂

That was an epic day. Literally every cast. You caught more than I did, but my buzzbait held its own. Buzzbaits are my favorite top water and if fish are hitting it, I’m going to keep throwing it. Poppers are a little more difficult for me to work properly, especially from a kayak, but are probably preferable for top water stripers.
