hey all!
looking to get into some larger game and i started off with catfish... now that i have more apt gear for gar fishing, i think i may give it a shot. I was wondering where in the DFW metroplex can i target alligator/longnose gar on the trinity? not looking for a giant by anymeans, but would love some larger fish (say, 60ish lbs)
I havent found too many access points browsing on goolgle maps, but heres what im looking at so far
River legacy park canoe/kayak launch off of north collins street
also would love to know what times to fish and what rigs to use for gar appreciate any advice and your time!

I go kayak bass fishing north of Hebron rd in Lewisville and there are tons of gar but I do not think they are gator gar. Biggest I have seen is around 4 feet.

A 60-pound gar is a huge gar for the metroplex. It would basically have to be an alligator gar to be that large. Most of the gar in the Trinity around the metroplex are longnose and shortnose gar. You can always run across an alligator gar, but to have a really good chance to find a 60 pound gar you will probably need to travel south toward the coast.

I know there is a YouTuber named BigRichFish who targets gar in the Trinity near Dallas. I'm not from that area but maybe some of his videos can lead you to a spot? The Trinity is known to be the home of the really big monsters, 200-300lbs, and up to 8' long

Look on map, find trinity below dfw. Trace back towards dfw until you run into dams on lakes. Anything below those dam will hold alligator gar.
