Anyone here have one? Brand? How well does it do the job?
I've got a 600 sq ft space to heat and cool, so looking at mini splits. 17.5x35' room. 10' ceiling and lots of windows on 2 sides

I have a home office about the same size (one skylight and no windows, though) and it has a mini split that’s old. No idea when it was installed but we’ve been here seven years and it looks way older than that.

It works great. Quiet and efficient.

I have 3 in the house I just bought. Every room downstairs has one because the house is an old barn that was converted and they never put duct work in the basement. I have some China ones off Ebay (came with the house) that do a really good job and for 2 years I have been impressed. Only one I use on a regular basis is the one in my 40x40 shop when I am downstairs pouring my plastics. I have 3 rooms in the basement all roughly the size of your picture and they do a very good job. With that said, all my buddies who are HVAC guys say LG, Mitsubishi or Fujitsu are the best. With one room, you can do a single condenser and find them pretty reasonably priced. Your cost really shoots up when you start getting condensers that run 2-3 splits. Biggest thing is from spring to fall, I go out once a month and spray down all the condensers. Pollen builds up and if they aint breathing, the line will freeze and you won't get cold air to come out of the unit. I was shocked that just a little pollen build up caused mine to not blow so cold. This might be the difference between a good mini split and a cheap one off Ebay. Also, I change my filter on the unit inside about every 4-8 months depending on how much I use the units.

We have a 220V 1 ton Mitsubishi unit for the War Departments office upstairs above the garage. Thing is a 32 to 34 SEER from I remember. HVAC guy that installed it 3 years ago pretty much said we could run it 24 hours a day all year long and probably would never see a blimp on our electric bill, pennies a day to operate. I would say he was right, we have pretty cheap electric and it has worked as advertised. No issues thus far. Now it was not cheap, there are many, many other manufactures that make these things for much less. But our local HVAC guy we trust only sells and works on Mitsubishi splits.

I think the heat load on that area will be a lot. Not sure how well it is insulated but the windows alone increase the heat load substantially. Oversize the system.

FIL installs them and has one in their house but its in Canada where I've never seen temps over 90 degrees F.

Never mind, I was thinking portable units, not the mini-split systems.

Mine is a Samsung Digital Inverter with a 10 year warranty. Works great.

We had Mitsubishi splits installed in all of the electronics rooms in the school district. They run 27/7/365 and never had an issue out of any of them. A buddy of mine put one in his garage and it runs 24/7 due to holding rescue dogs.

Yes sir, it has changed a little bit. 8' tall French doors and 7' tall windows. All energy efficiency doors and windows.

They do sell Mr Cool brand at lowes and others. If you’re a do it yourself kind of guy. They are precharged and ready to go one installed by anyone with a little snap. Tons of videos out there of DIY people installing them.

I removed a 3 ton Trane heatpump in 2012 and replaced with an LG minisplit rated at 30K btu with 3 heads. All the heads were wall mount units and after two years I changed one wall mount out for a ceiling cassette. I did the initial installation myself and just paid a HVAC tech to pull suction and check for freon leaks. It is a 23 SEER unit and I have had zero issues. Four years ago I converted two garage storage units into interior space and added a 1 ton LG minisplit to that side of the house. So basically I heat and cool 1900 sq ft with two units that equal 3.5 tons and have four heads. These units provide heat when it is below 20 degrees and cold air when it is 105 degrees. My electric bill has never been over ninety dollars in the last ten years. Critical points to address are having a surge protector inline at the disconnect and place the outside unit on a rack at least 18 inches off the ground. A one ton unit will cover your area with no problem. PM me if you have more questions,
