A dime? grin Yeah, I remember those days.

Public pay phones in low income areas would have loved the Chinese flu.

If you see a pay phone now it is owned by the business I think Ma Bell and other phones are out of the pay phone business.

I worked in a convenience store in the early 1980’s where all the money put in it ended up in the coin return. About 25% of the time the caller didn’t realize it.

My phone gets wiped off routinely with antibacterial wipes. They kill any of MY germs on my phone's surface.

No, no WE don't. You might, but that's just nasty. My phone does not go into the restroom. I used to sell cell phones and I HATED when a customer would say their phone 'got wet' and it would still be dripping water...and you KNEW it was toilet water! After the first couple of times where people would wait to tell me it had been in the toilet until after I had touched it, I started putting on gloves or not even touching it. I'd just hand them the office phone and tell them to file an insurance claim. I ain't touching toilet phones. Nasty!

Some homeless guy found an exposed wire, stuck a metal pin in the phone line and shorted it out. Whoever would come back later removed the pin and all the change would fall out, cocktails for the night.

When I first started my sales career, I wore a pager and used the pay phone when it went off. Most of the phone booths in the inner city areas were mostly used as urinals. I’m glad those days are over.
