I'm looking for a rod specifically for jig fishing (3/8, 1/2, maybe some 3/4 oz). Not looking for a flippin'/pitchin' rod as I already have this covered. Here are my contenders:

Dobyn's Champion XP 744C - head nothing but awesome things about this rod. Great customer service. I have all Dobyn's Fury rods right now (I have one Shimano Curado rod as well).

Falcon Cara Amistad - this is only in my list because I've heard really good things for this price point. That said, I'm really hesitant to order from them considering I called them twice, left a voicemail, and never got a call back. This tells me everything I need to know about their customer service, which is that there probably is none. So unless this rod is significantly better than the Dobyn's I'm not sure I'm inclined to go this route

Megabass Levante Pitch Perfect - I've heard great things about the Orochi XX, but that is a $350 rod. I know these rods had issues with tips in the past, but it sounds like these issues got fixed during the revamp in 2019. These are supposed to be great rods. Just not sure how they compare to the Falcon or Dobyn's. Plus these rods look cool cool

What do you guys think?

What type of jigs or cover do you intend to fish? What specific questions do you have regarding the Amistad? Falcon customer service is traditionally very good. With that said, if you have been happy with Dobyn's, why not stick with that brand?

Most likely 3/8-1/2 oz football heads. Most the lakes out here in AZ are rocky. Not a lot of thick vegetation (there are exceptions to this, but it’s mostly open rocky lake). I’ve got some arkie heads from Northwest Custom
baits as well. That said a rod that can do it all well would be nice. Like I said I’m
Not expecting to pitch or flip heavy cover with it though

The 734 xp would work well for you....I use it for heavier shakey heads as well.

The 744C Jig Rod Special is great for jigs and carolina rigs.

For me personally, the Falcon Cara Amistad is THE perfect rod for flippin/pitching 3/8oz and 1/2oz jigs/soft plastics. For whatever reason though I do not like it for anything heavier than 1/2oz or for fishing deeper than 10-15 feet. If you plan on going up to 3/4 oz or fishing deeper than 15feet then I'd go with another options.

Thats my money fish

I’ve been using the 744 for a few years. Love it!! Great for big worms and jigs.

I owned the MB Pitch Perfect at one time and was not a fan. Sold it.

I own the Extreme 744 and really like it for pitching jigs and T-rigs. I don't really like the Champion series for bottom contact baits. Love them for moving baits, but not dragging baits.

The Dobyns rod I really like for what sounds like the applications you'll be using it for--casting football jigs as opposed to pitching/flipping, is the DX 784. I really like the extra length. Casts a mile and with excellent sensitivity. I use it for 1/2 oz and 3/4 oz football jigs, bigger t-rigs in deeper water, and my back up c-rig rod.

Can't speak to the Falcon.

If you end up buying the MB, keep the receipt. I wasted $300 because I threw mine away, won’t make that mistake again.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I’ll go with the 744

Another rod I would definitely consider is the ALX Rods Zolo Dragger. I use it for Jigs up to 3/4oz. IMO it's more sensitive than the Dobyns Champion XP model and made in the US with a lifetime replacement warranty.

Second that on the ALX Dragger. I have several ALX and Dobyns rods....both are very nice rods (and about the same price) but for plastics/jigs, the ALX is far and away more sensitive and lighter than the Dobyns. For moving baits (i.e. squarebills and chatterbaits) the Dobyns are best.
