Kill trap

This will get them. I’ve got three of these and trapped a bunch. Had a friend who had a squirrel that he couldn’t get out of his attic. I let him borrow these and he caught it the first day.

I bait mine with pecan halves. Just pierce the bait and push it up on the trip wires. One important tip: ANCHOR IT TO A BOARD.

It will kill them 90% of the time. If they are trapped and still alive, they will try to run, so it’s important to make sure they don’t run off with the trap.

Do a search on YouTube. There are lotsa videos.

Jimmy

Also: Wear gloves. There’s a learning curve setting the trap. Try to keep your fingers outside the trap. I trapped myself several times. It hurts.

I take them down to the lake and see how long they can hold their breath.

I'm just going to say this right here. If taking tree shots or any shot requiring an upward trajectory in your urban environment . . . what goes up must come down (at the mass and velocities you are talking about).

Gotta bait them. Corn on the cob stuck on a nail on a low limb in tree. Sitting ducks then.
I killed hundreds with a pellet gun it’s my house in Weatherford.

They have to eat that for survival, man.

Kinda f'd up to take it away from them just so you can have a convenient breakfast.

Had a guy a couple of years ago show up in our area one morning. Then we hear POP! I went out back and he was in my back yard looking up a tree. He motioned to me to be quiet. I didn't care and asked him the the heck he was doing. He said my neighbor asked him to come out and clear out the squirrels. He said he's been doing this for years. I said BS! I've been here 18 years and have never seen or heard of him. I said why aren't you using a .177 instead of .22. He said his .177 had issues. I said that you are going to have issues if you keep shooting on my property so please move off. And if I have any damage as a result of errant shot, I have a picture of your truck and license plate and you will become the hunted. He left after that.

Just the cob? No corn? Does it have to be fresh or would frozen work?

If I could get them all on that bottom branch... I could plink them from my window and have a great backdrop in case of misses. Shooting fish in a barrel. When they are scampering around 40 feet up in the branches of a fully leafed out Elm... its tougher to get the drop on them.

You need a pellet rifle or the Squirrelinator. I use the Squirrelinator because my wife and daughter would lose it if I started hunting them. Some Squirrelinator videos show the trap full of squirrels but I have only been able to catch them one at a time. Once in the trap, they panic and the other squirrels outside the trap realize something is wrong and leave.

I used to shoot them with a .22 pellet rifle but the cheaper ones like the benjamin and Gamo units would change point of impact after a while so I switched to a Savage Mark II .22lr using CCI quiet ammo. As long as you limit yourself to ground shots its pretty safe. I let the squirrels play on the weekends and only shoot on weekdays when everyone is at work or school.
