Just wanted to throw this out there, we hear some bad reports here and there. Showed up at Oak Cove on Richland Chambers for a Century Bass Club tournament and the place was packed. Realized pretty quickly there was a high school anglers tournament going on. It was a madhouse getting launched because of the number of anglers and the wind blowing into the marina didn't help, but if you have been fishing for a number of years it is what it is. Everything seemed to go pretty smoothly it was just a little crowded in that small area. So we made it out to our fishing spot and of course there are 4 to 5 other boats in the area all high schoolers except one. We ended up fishing that area for a couple of hours and all I can tell you is that every one of the other boats were really great about the way they moved around and kept their distance from each other and from us also giving everyone space to fish their areas. I haven't been around many of them but really began to notice a few of the Captains really helping out the kids during their fishing. I also got to witness a young lady catch a fish and seeing her excitement during the catch really got me fired up. We went about fishing the rest of the day in other areas almost always with other boats of high schoolers and other anglers and everyone we came across were really great and we didn't see or hear of any issues anywhere.

Then when we got in for weigh in the crew handling that were great and they had music playing and I can only imagine how awesome it is for those kids to be walking up on that stage and taking in the whole experience and found a new appreciation for what that has become.

I have a grandson going into high school next year and me and my son in law who fish together talked yesterday about how much fun it will be for them to fish these events and I can't wait to help out and see Garrett on one of those stages next year.

Just wanted to give a big shout out to all of the High School Anglers.

It was the championship for the Central Texas High School Tournament Trail (CTHSTT). This trail usually covers Belton, Stillhouse, Waco, and then two lakes that change year to year in our region. The tournament director more or less launched this trail out of the back of his truck and a folding table in the beginning and has steadily grown it to what you saw yesterday.

Good luck to you and your grandson next year if he decides to fish.

CTHST also allows JR High teams as young as 6th grade. The turnouts arent as big so lakes arent that crowded. As mentioned they stay around the above mentioned lakes as well as Whitney.

Some of the "kids" today in the HS programs can hand it to you for sure.

By the way, if any of you High Schoolers happened to fish out a Falcon 7’ MH All Around rod attached to a Shimano Curado MGL 150 reel I have a reward ready for you.
