Just curious why BASS wouldn’t be using a scale that locks on a weight. Every time one of the boat officials say a weight the number is still bouncing around. Doesn’t seem to be the best scale for an accurate weight. IMO

They are using the exact same sales they have used for several years. I* think the wind and wave action is kicking the officials' butts this year. I believe that MLF uses the exact same scales.

MLF scales lock I believe. When you have that much money on the line I don’t think I would want my boat official guessing which weight it should stop on. Just my opinion. There was one you could see the scale stop multiple times on a number but the boat official gave the angler a weight two ounces less.

Or an ounce or two more on some occasions. I watched a judge give the angler the highest weight the scale went to while bouncing in the waves. I agree with you, a locking scale like the one MLF uses would be much better.

YES, they do use the exact same scales. NO, the scales do not LOCK on a weight. Nothing will ever be PERFECT in a bouncing boat, but actually going thru a three day training session, with MLF, helps greatly. Fair and impartial is all you can do. Try this on Champlain with 4-6' rollers. The anglers don't want you to take forever to weigh a fish. Call it, and go on. One thing you rarely see on MLF, is the cameras focusing on the scale. You saw it with Paul and Bobby at Redcrest, and probably a good thing.

I guess a non locking scale is the best way to make your anglers be nice to their boat officials.

Those are the same scales they use in MLF.

They don’t lock in a on a weight but stabilize. What made it tougher for me was the wave action on fish larger than 3#. Wind was 20# on Friday. It’s always been a issue if a fish is flopping. Need to clam them down. Process is the same for all anglers. Neither guy I rode with asked for a re-weigh.

As others said it’s the same scale MLF uses.

I have the MLF version in my boat and they are very nice. I was curious about the manufacturer so I looked them up and was impressed with their product offering. I guess if you want an accurate scale you should expect to pay for it.....and would want one made by a true scale manufacturer. That is what you get with Brecknell.

I have no doubt they are the best scales. So are you getting a true weight or just within a few ounces? I don’t know much about scales but it seems like someone would of figured out how to make one that will lock even in rough conditions.

Do you think they don’t ask for a re-weigh because they are concerned it could go down instead of up? I know it probably evens itself out for the most part.

I had not watched the tournament live, only watched updates on my phone at the time I made my post. I watched it last night and my MLF version of the scale doesn't bounce around like some I saw. I can't explain that but I would agree I would question the weight if my scale said 3.2.....3.6....3.2........3.7.........3.2..........3.8.......boat official announces weight at 3.3 lbs.

Has Brecknell come out with a version that handles water better? I liked the Brecknell units I previously had but seems like no matter how hard I tried to protect them, water would inevitably short it out. Buying a new one every year does not make sense at their price point.
