I just got a new Shimano Curado 6'10" Medium rod for jerkbaits (recommended by Tactical Bassin for budget rods) and I am pairing it up with a Shimano SLX XT (7.2:1 ratio) reel.
I've been searching old threads on which line to use for jerkbaits and I'm a bit torn. For now I will be fishing Megasbass Vision 110 Jr +1s. Flouro seems like the answer if you are ONLY going to use this setup for jerkbaits (again Tactical Bassin recommends 12lb flouro). That said, it is always nice when I can use a rod/reel for more than one lure/presentation. I'm wondering if I go with mono, maybe it would be more versatile?
What do you guys think?
Thanks!

+1. You can also sling around a wacky worm or a drop shot with that setup

If you want something to suspend, it makes sense to me to use a neutrally buoyant line like 10lb Pline Fluoroclear or 10lb Yozuri hybrid fluoro/copoly blended lines.
Could use the same set up for 1/10 to 1/5oz mushroom and ball head jigs along with drop shot.

Fluorocarbon line is an excellent all-around line. It does stretch, almost as much as mono. It just has a “different” stretch. Initially, it feels stiff, but pull the stuff and it does stretch…a lot. It does yield slightly better sensitivity than mono, because the line requires more effort to begin its stretch. This initial stiffness transfers vibration to the rod tip a little better.

Mono or flouro will work just fine. To many people try to over think things

I use both on different setups. Well same exact setup just different circumstances. I have times I want the bait to ride higher and not move as much so I use mono. The other 90% of the time I use flouro. Jerkbait fishing anyone can do it. To consistently smoke them on it is a science

Depends on the season and how deep in the water column you want your JB presentation. If you want your JB maximum depth, Flourocarbon. If you are gonna fish in the winter, use Flourocarbon. A dying shad has a nose down attitude in winter, mono will present the bait at nose up--not natural. Although I am a big fan of Tactical Bassin, I am not thrilled they represent the Shimano 6' 10" medium as a great JB rod, it's not!

If I use a med rod I go 12-15 FC. If I use a med/hev rod I go with 15-20 mono. That being said I use a med rod 95% of the time.
Do something different, you will be surprised what happens. 2020 Xpress H20B 115 Yamaha SHO

Used Mono for years thinking that the buoyancy was supposed to help. Just recently switched to 10-12lb fluoro and its way better.

I have tried both mono and fluoro on jerkbaits and have settled on 10-12lb fluoro as being better overall. Don't think it matters when they're really chewing on the jerkbait, but when it's mediocre or tough I think you'll find better action, better posture in the water, and way better sensitivity out of fluoro than mono for this application.
My favorite dedicated jerkbait setup has a 20lb braid to about 10-15ft of 10-12lb fluoro leader with an FG/Rizzuto knot. Really helps to produce tight, short darts on long casts in winter. Even fresh fluoro gets a bit spongey at long distance, doesn't let the bait dart-stop as sharply. I'll take the fluoro leader off and use that rod for poppers/light topwaters during summer to keep from taking all the braid back off.

+1 I haven't used mono in over 30 years. There are much better lines on the market than mono. No need to live in the past with five and a half foot pistol grip rods and mono line.
