I am going to Lake Stamford for a family reunion and fishing trip over Memorial Day weekend. I have never been to the lake, but some of my extended family have a lake house there and tell me the sand bass (or white bass) fishing is pretty good. Can anyone give me some areas that are better than others? I wouldn't mind catching some crappie while I'm there at the end of next week. I searched for fishing info on Stamford, but only found 2 threads about cat fishing and bass fishing. We are planning to have a fish fry, so I sure would like to catch some fish for it. How are the fish biting now? Do the white bass ever hit top water there, and are there any sea gulls on the lake this time of year? I checked the fishing report on the TP&WD web site and there was no mention of white bass, hopefully that isn't a bad sign.
I have heard there are hybrids in Lake Fort Phantom Hill and the fishing could be good there, but also know nothing about that lake either. I would appreciate any information on either, or both lakes. I seriously doubt I will ever be back on either lake again, it's 300+ miles from my home in East Texas. If you would rather not post your information, please send me info in a PM.

Thanks for the tip, I will check out that area. I assume you are talking about on Lake Stamford?

Anyone else?

Sent you a private message but shallow rocky ledges (think softball sized rock not big boulders) …north part of Phantom…. Key is being there at first light, wipers and white bass will bite like crazy until about 9am or so. Then they shut off (go deeper).

Good luck
